This is not Bob Marley’s Wailers, but the great Austin act, the Whalers.  They’re celebrating the release of their new single by throwing a great show over at the Belmont this Saturday night.  What’s even better, they’re letting us give away a pair of tickets to the show!  If you’re not convinced yet, check out the incredible Austin talent supporting them: Tiger Waves, The Baker Family and Jesse Woods.  I’m pretty sure anyone with good tastes will want to make their way out.  All you have to do is leave a comment with your 4th of July plans, and I’ll pick a winner.  Our contest will close at 5 PM on Friday, July 5th. Pure X Ticket Giveaway + Show Preview

PureXCrawlingUpTheStairsThere’s been tons of great records being pushed upon the Internet world lately, but one that I’m personally excited about it is the new effort from Pure X.  Crawling Up the Stairs is on my list of anticipated albums, and it’s great that an Austin band is making such big waves.  But, in other news, they’ll be playing their album release next Thursday, giving us Austinites a chance to hear the new tunes live at Holy Mountain on Thursday, May 23rd; they’ll be joined by Troller and Versus.  And, we’re going to give away a pair of tickets to the show, which you can win by simply leaving us a comment.  Let us know what your summer plans are, even if you have a real job and are just taking a weekend jaunt.  We’ll pick the most exciting summer plan, and there’s our winner.  Contest will end on Friday at Midnight.

Show Preview + Ticket Giveaway : Woods @ Red 7 (10.24)

Have we got a deal for you !? The great people of Transmission are allowing us to help you get out and see one of the most anticipated shows of the season, Woods over at Red 7.  Their recent release, Bend Beyond, is absolutely magnificent, and I have a feeling it will make a lot of year end lists.  But, if that’s not enough to convince you, you can also see Widowspeak, a Captured Tracks act that made my list of favorites at SXSW this past year.  Oh, and local group Hidden Ritual is setting things off right as the opening slot!  All you need to do is leave a comment with your most anticipated Fun Fun Fun Fest band, and we’ll pick our favorite and let you have 2 free tickets to Wednesday night’s show. Doors are at 9 PM, and for those just wanting to buy tickets they’re $14 at the door.  Contest ends Wednesday at 8 AM.

As promised yesterday, we’ve got a sweet contest for you Twin Shadow fans who might have missed out on getting tickets to his now sold out dual Austin dates at the Mohawk.  Here’s some deets on the contest and how to enter.

Up for grabs: One lucky winner will receive a spot on the guest list with +1 so they can take a friend.  You’ll also be sent one of the brand new 7″ singles we mentioned yesterday that feature “Run my Heart” and new track “Get What You Want”.

So, one of the perks of running a music site is you get tons of free stuff; I mean TONS.  But, another perk is that you get to hook up your readers too!
