Let’s face it, if you don’t know who Jonathan Richman is, odds are you’ve been living under a rock.  His influence is all over the place, from Art Brut to Jeremy Jay.  After breaking up The Modern Lovers, Jonathan went solo, which is how we’ll find him this week as he hits Austin for four nights in a row.  You should catch one of these shows for sure.

Li’l Cap’n Travis has always been one of our favorite Austin bands and we always make a point to check them out when they play around town.  So if you’re looking for some cheap local jams on Friday night, head to Continental Club for a set by the Austin alt-country band.  Fellow locals Leatherbag and Aaron Blount and The Mockingales will also be playing before the headliners.  Show starts around 10pm.

The Continental Club has a nice local lineup this Friday night with Li’l Cap’n Travis and Brothers and Sisters on the bill.  We give a lot of coverage to both these bands and feel like they maybe haven’t gotten their due praise just yet.  Tickets will be sold only at the door for $8 with music starting at 10pm.

Austin’s favorite son, Black Joe Lewis, is playing at The Continental Club on Thursday evening.  Black Joe is well known around town for bringing intensity and fire to his live performances that other local acts can’t compete with.  Mr. Lewis is set to go on at midnight with tickets only $10 at the door.  Gunpowder!
