ACL 2012: Friday In Pictures

ACL 2012 coverage continues with a giant photo post for Friday. Here is the list of artists: Los Campesinos, Patrick Watson, Delta Spirit, Afghan Whigs, Alabama Shakes, Florence and the Machine and M83.

We’ll have more on which bands did what, for sure. This I will tell you, Florence has pipes. Very impressive, as I recall early in her career being a bit of mess live. Alabama Shakes deserve their popularity. Patrick Watson (Wilson according to the lineup, awww) and his band may have been the best group of musicians. Delta Spirit is an all-growns-up festival band. Likewise for M83. But seeing the Afghan Whigs? That was pretty bad ass.

There’s a bundle of really solid rock shows this weekend, but the one recommendation I can give you is that you need to end up Emos on Saturday.  Delta Spirit is headlining a show in support of their great new album History From Below.  Not only do these guys put on a great show that has one them fans all over, but they are playing with none other than David Vandervelde.  He’s been sort of a shapeshifter of late, originally coming off as Bolan, but trying to go a little softer in his current state.  Regardless, why not go enjoy the night with a couple of great bands worthy of your time?  Exactly, so let’s do this.

lstn5-logoHip clothing company Urban Outfitters are offering up a free 23 song sampler filled with some of the best acts from this year.  Crazy good track listing features singles and previously unreleased material from Phoenix, Delta Spirit, Grizzly Bear, St. Vincent and tons more great artists.  You can stream the sampler online or you can download it from the itunes store.  Here’s one of the tracks from the sampler by Crystal Antlers called “Andrew”.

Delta Spirit @ Emo’s Show Review

Saturday night was probably not the most enjoyable evening on which to catch a show, as it was freezing cold here in Austin, but many brave souls opted to push through the wintry weather in pursuit of a good evening of music.  Those in attendance were able to catch Dawes, Other Lives and Delta Spirit honing their skills on stage. Here are our thoughts on the evening.
