You’ve only got one week left to enjoy Red 7; it closes at the end of this week. Still, there’s a few great shows left for you, like the one this evening featuring Ne Hi. They released this arty piece of post-punk earlier this summer, which garnered the Chicago act a lot of praise; I think it’s been well deserved. They’re working on a new album, but they wanted to see your pretty faces before finishing it up. Oh, and if you show up early you get treated to one of the great many local treasures, The Zoltars.
Feel like it’s been rather slow as of late with the music coming our way, which is fair enough for the time of year. So, when I got sent this Ne-Hi track, I was stoked, to say the least. Upon first listen, it reminds me of a relaxed version of The Feelies, using great rhythm to propel the song forward, whilst employing these slightly angular guitar chords and semi-chanted lyrics. The Chicago outfit is about ready to head out on a nice little nationwide tour in August, including an Austin date on August 24th. Check this new hit out.
Some artists get all the love, which seems to be the case for Day Wave, the project of Jackson Phillips. We posted on him earlier this year, probably way before anyone else because we’re that cool, so we’re delighted his new song is doing so well. It has all the bright moments we loved from his first single, with deep toned ringing guitars and precision programmed percussive moments; it reminds me of the frivolous joy we all got when we first started listening to the Drums. We’re still waiting to hear news of a full-length album, but for now, this project is hitting all the right notes for us.
