Vinyl Market @ Central Machine Works (7.10)

Date Sunday, July 10th
Location Central Machine Works
Doors 11:00 AM
Tickets Free!

Before you head out for the weekend, I’m hoping you will save the date for an absolutely insane vinyl market going down at Central Machine Works on Sunday from 11am to 4pm. Why so insane you ask? This event will feature ALL the heavy hitters slinging vinyl in this town, plus music from DJ Dead Flowers and cheap beer/food prices all day. Shop from our local homies Waterloo Records, Breakaway Records, BLK Vinyl, Love Wheel Records, Whetstone Audio, Spaceflight Records, Keeled Scales, The Next Waltz, and 9Mile Records. Yeah, it’s going to be a thing. Oh yeah and I’ll be there as well selling ATH Records releases along with a ton of used LPs, 45s, hats, shirts, memorabilia and posters.

Stop by the booth, say hey, and we’ll make you a deal on something so you go home happy with new music, new digs, and new art for the wall. We promise to be way more chill with a hell of a lot more pricing flexibility than anything featured at Palmer. Nudge nudge, wink wink.

The Vinyl Market takes place inside!

Benjamin Cissner Record Release @ Barracuda + End of an Ear

12241698_907663649310191_6124699712053618704_nWhile we cover music from all over, we definitely like to give Austin acts a special focus. But, in covering the scene, you come across a lot of the same genres, same sounds; it’s this way in every city, so I’m always looking for that voice to rise above the rest. For me, the last few months it’s been consumed by this Benjamin Cissner LP, Birds in the Night. Lucky for you, you’ll have two chances to catch him tomorrow night to celebrate the release with him. He’ll be playing for free at 6 PM at End of an Ear, then later in the night he’ll be playing with Rattlesnake Milk and Kill County at the Barracuda. Like I said, this is the one artist around, at the moment, that I feel like is unparalleled in the local scene…he’ll be touring with Scott Yoder in May too, so the rest of you folks should keep an eye out!

Big Bill 7″ Stream + Release Party (2.28)

billyThere’s been great coverage this week for Austin’s Big Bill…local blog Ovrld and national mag, The Big Takeover added to the band’s recent press run. It’s deserved on so many levels, not only just musically, but in its representation of what truly makes Austin “weird.” Our label is releasing the 7″ today, and it will come with a special prize for those of you that order it HERE (it’s like a musical Cracker Jacks!), but you should also come out to End of an Ear on Sunday evening before the Oscars to enjoy a great set celebrating the band’s release. They’ll go on at 5 PM, and we’ll have the 7″ on hand for you to grab. Trust me, this is going to be a great year for all things Bill…so get a head start with this 7″.

ATX Spotlight: Fresh Nameless Frames

namelessI’m really digging the few short listens I’ve had to the forthcoming LP from Austin’s Nameless Frames; it’s a good blend of punk fueled by energetic tunes and anthemic vocals. The single below has this grit to it that initially covers up some of the pop sensibility lurking beneath, but as the track evolves, that element rises to the top, asking you to tap your toes as you play the song over and over again. The band is releasing their self-titled album this week via Super Secret Records, with a release celebration at End of an Ear on Sunday (2.20) at 6 PM. Enjoy.

Here Comes Big Bill w/ a Brand New 7″

12525445_934355893285127_1640897892190808803_oLast week the ATH Records label was fortunate enough to get a lot of love for our newest release from Big Billover at Impose (you can read the article HERE). There was a discussion on taking on modern gender roles, as well as the band’s penchant for making art/music on their own terms, no matter the cost. Still, it’s important to give the song more love, especially considering it’s a fine piece of punk rock, bred on the history of our fair city and it’s changing landscape. The guitar shuffles perfectly as the cymbals crash in your ear, and Eric Bill delivers his vocals in his distinctive style. We’ll be celebrating the release of the 7″ at End of an Ear on February 28th.

You can also order it HERE if you’re not fortunate enough to live within traveling distance to the local record shop!

Stream Summer Salt’s Going Native EP

sideaWe’re putting this Going Native EP out with the wonderful lads of Summer Salt. I don’t want to say too much on it because I honestly think the music, and the band’s live set speak for themselves. I promise you…in the next few months, if not the next few years, people will be talking about these dudes as one of the best in town. They celebrate with a release show at End of an Ear on Friday at 6 PM…or they also have a house show the following night that you can read about HERE.

If you want a copy, and I promise you that you do. Grab it HERE or HERE. It comes on rad green vinyl, and the image here is on the A Side…the B Side is a surprise!

The Whiskey Priest @ End of an Ear

Normally we would reserve this space for a show post, but we wanted to give more details about the free show that will take place this Saturday, August 14th, at End of an Ear, at six o’ clock.  You see, The Whiskey Priest is Austin songwriter Seth Woods, and his new collection of songs is really spectacular.  Wave and Cloud will be released on August 23rd, and it’s a down-trodden affair, of the most enjoyable type, of course.  You’ll enjoy the way the songs flow from Woods’ voice, and the gentle strumming allows for optimal emotion to be pulled from every chord.  You’ll have a new favorite Austin band after listening to this.
