There’s always a brief lull right before the storm, except this year, there isn’t. There’s tons of shows with Austin band’s all over town, and tonight I encourage you to head to Cheer Up Charlies to catch the Wildfires EP release. The band offers you pop music via a kaleidoscope of dreaminess and shoegaze elements. I’m really excited to hear the band’s EP in full, but for now we’ll let you stream this brand new song they’ve got for you. Plus, there’s other local greats on the bill like The Sour Notes, The Zoltars (who just released their 3rd album recently) and Telepods. The weather’s been great, so why not enjoy your evening with great tunes.
Out of the ashes of two great bands, come two new great bands. And perhaps it wasn’t even ashes, but a change in direction, which has brought us A. Sinclair (frmly Frank Smith) and Otis the Destoryer (frmly the Couch). Both bands will be releasing EPs tonight over at the Mohawk, which is a definite reason to show your face. A. Sinclair are offering up their Pretty Girls EP, and Otis the Destroyer are offering us the Dark Arts EP. We consider both bands to be two of the top acts in town, though admittedly that list is growing and growing. Plus, because you have to have great openers, the bands have chosen Chasca and the Docs to open the night up. You should definitely stop by this evening…there isn’t a better option out there. The show starts at 10 inside, right after the Red Fang show.[audio:http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/05-Throwing-Up-On-The-Ground.mp3]
This wasn’t how this show was originally planned, but sometimes your stars all line up in the right way, and we’re happy to announce that this Thursday we’ll be throwing down with Young Girls to release their much anticipated 7″, courtesy of Austintownhall Records. I’ve got the EP down below for you to jam to your hearts conent, guaranteeing you’ll want to be there, or you can order it HERE. Another reason to come…two of the best young bands in Austin, Shivery Shakes and Reservations. I can’t go on too much about SS, as my lady friend is getting a little jealous of William, but I can say this: I’ve been watching them play for awhile, and while they were always good, they’ve never sounded as great and confident as they do now. And Reservations? That’s a band that is expected to have a huge year; the songs are there, the drive is there, it’s just a matter of time before it blows up. So come join us, and I’ll sell you a 7″.

Those of you that didn’t see me raving yesterday about the excellent new EP from Shivery Shakes, then you should definitely check out our REVIEW. But, for those of you also looking for a great local show, you need to head to the ND on Saturday night. You’ll get the jangling sun-pop of Shivery Shakes, not to mention a chance to grab their EP, but you also get to see some other local acts like Sleep Good and Burgess Meredith. BOY, who I’ve heard wonderful things about, will also be joining the festivities. Oh, and the first 50 through the door can grab a cool package with a poster, EP, and buttons included![audio:http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Wait.mp3]
