Bnny Share I’m Just Fine

If you haven’t had a chance to listen to Bnny‘s Everything LP from last year, then perhaps this tune might serve as a reminder of the band’s enchanting draw. On this number, I’m really drawn to the way the guitar lines seem to kind of have this trickling manner, like a quiet brook, steadily building a soft current of melody. Combine that with Jess Viscius’s voice, and you get this intoxicating escapism; it’s ethereal yet omnipresent, sort of keeping your listening brain in an in-between world of musical euphoria. Enjoy the new single, and please, go check out their LP, which, like this single, come courtesy of hard work and Fire Talk Records.

Seems like my listening approach today is the dizzying spell of slow-core pop, and I don’t mind that one bit. After that great Cindy tune this morning, we’ve now got this striking new tune form Bnny. Jess Viscius dominates the tune, wielding her voice like a steady stream of fog creeping into your listening room. Everything behind her voice sounds so forlorn and lonesome, like we’re lost out on the road, driving to nowhere. But, the video seems to illustrate some themes of finding companionship, so through the fog and wandering, there’s promise here, or at least the possibility of it. Another chance to immerse yourself in Bnny before Everything drops via Fire Talk on August 20th.

I have this weird feeling that Bnnywill be high upon folks talking points list when their debut record finally drops; I’m already holding them in high esteem. I love the nakedness of this tune, just the solitude of the presentation is really striking, to me anyways. Not sure which feels lonelier, the vocals of Jess or that guitar, but either feels like its just hanging in isolation, waiting for our discovery. There’s also this very slight tonal change around the 1:10 mark that really made this song stick out in my mind, so if you’re looking for little flourishes to charm, check that brief moment. Everything will be out on August 20th via Fire Talk.

Meet PR Newman

Spencer Garland’s been tinkering around the Austin music scene for some time now, but he seems to finally have found his groove with his new project PR Newman. The song definitely harkens to a bit of a folk/Americana feel, though Spencer seems willing to stretch that as near to the border of pop songwriting as possible. I love the resounding idea in the lyric “happy,” especially when juxtaposed with preceding ideas…you can follow along in the lyrical video below. It also never hurts to have a guest appearance from the Bond Twins. Welcome to your new favorite Austin act!

More New Tunes from Case Studies

CaseStudies5.1Long have we supported Jesse Lortz, ever since his early days with Dutchess and the Duke; he’s since moved on, working on his new project Case Studies. He seems so much more comfortable stepping into the light on his own, with a great drawl to his voice, evoking every last drop of emotion.  The song’s built around the backbone of a piano, but the solo guitar work near the end of the track really emphasizes the accomplished range of Lortz as a songwriter.  His new album This Is Another Life will be out on June 11th via Sacred Bones.
