One More From Shady Bug

We in the ATH offices have a few favorites for album of the season and Shady Bug’s upcoming joint What’s the Use? is surely in contention. Already we’ve shared the stunner, “Zero Expectations,” and now the band are treating us to another preview with this jam “Favor.” Without offering too much of an opinion or comparisons, I’ll just say that if you haven’t check out this band and their new material yet, well what are you even doing. Get on it.

Shady Bug will release What’s the Use? on June 30th via Exploding in Sound.

Shady Bug Share Zero Expectations

Sometimes you have to have sounds working against each other, creating friction in order to come to terms with something magical, which is sort of my description for the latest single from Shady Bug. Bending guitar lines leave the listener tense once they’ve pressed play; they have this carnival-esque nature to them that toys with a darkness that’s unsettling. But, then Hannah Rainey comes right into the picture with this sweetness that takes the song into this playful territory. It gives you a hook and an edge, and personally, leaves you wishing there was a whole lot more where that came from. Luckily, the band are dropping their What’s the Use EP on June 30th via Exploding in Sound.

Washer Dropped Not Like You

Looking a little foggy outside my classroom window, so needed a little pick me up this morning, perfectly offered up by Washer and their latest single. It’s a furious puncher, hitting you with immediacy that pummels your speakers as it rips through with pounding drum snaps. The vocals begin with this indie curl, but eventually erupt with this ferocious growl that sets up perfectly for that cathartic release for both listener and singer alike. Their new LP is shaping up quite nicely, so that means you’ll want to grab Improved Means to Deteriorated Ends on April 28th when it drops via Exploding in Sound.

One More Stunner From Pile

Well this late winter going into early Spring release season looks like it’s going to nuts and filled with tons of bangers to start the year. While we tend to see a lot of the huge names getting all the talk, I think many of us music fans may have forgotten about the upcoming Pile album, All Fiction, due out next month on Exploding in Sound. Already we’ve heard album banger, and song of the year winner “Loops” as well as the slightly poppier (for Pile) song “Poisons”. Today we have yet another new track called “Nude with a Suitcase” which may just be the darkest of the dark wave from the band. It’s a real slow burning, almost gothic approach and should slide in nicely to the album’s tracklist.

Pre-orders for All Fiction are live now with a release date of February 17th.

Another Banger From Pile

Nashville based band Pile is full of veterans in the music scene, but I think they might just be making some of their best new music this year. February 7th will be the much anticipated date for new album All Fiction, and I am here to tell ya, it is full of banger after banger and is 45 minutes of pleasure. Prior to that release date, Pile have this new single “Poisons” as yet another teaser of this straight badass new record. It’s just full of so much raw energy and somewhat restrained and palpable tension. You’ll surely enjoy it.

Pre-orders for All Fiction are live now via Exploding in Sound.

Dark Wave From Pile

Nashville by way of Boston based Pile is a band that has been constantly working and generating new music for over 15 years. Ever evolving and growing, this new single “Loops” shows a band delving a bit further into a more dark wave, eery and post-punk inspired sound. For me, this may be the best work from Rick Maquire and crew as it is full of deep, heavy bass depth and sort of restrained, yet impactful energy. Check it out with new video below.

Pile has a new album entitled All Fiction coming out on February 17th via Exploding in Sound. Pre-orders are already live.

Driving New Tune From Pet Fox

Boston based outfit Pet Fox just shared this new single called “It Won’t Last” as the third drop from their upcoming album. It’s a short tune with lots of energy and tons of jangly guitars and melodies. The band has managed to cram a ton of twang inspired pop melodies within the short two minute track.

Pet Fox will release this track as part of their new album entitled A Face in Your Life due out on June 17th via Exploding in Sound Records.

Pinch Points Share Haruspex

With their new album Process on next week’s horizon, we’ve got to be sure you’ve put Pinch Points on your radar before we inundate you with SXSW propaganda. When “Haruspex” kicks on, you get this post-punk sermon, with the band throwing out these wriggling guitar lines and emphatic vocal shouts; it feels like you’re being made to squirm beneath their message, squashing their message into your soul as the rhythm section stomps. There’s a slight uptick in the energy midway through, with the vocals holding tight to the mantra. If you’re digging, Process is out March 18th via Exploding in Sound.

Pinch Points Drop Am I Okay Single

The Aussie scene’s been quieter than usual, with only the Partner Look LP coming to mind as heavy rotation pieces over here, so I’m glad Melbourne’s Pinch Points have this rad little single to share from their forthcoming LP. In this song, you get a nice little rolling indie rock feel, sort of like the low tides nipping at your ankles as you walk along the beach. I love the dual vocal approach, matching the emphatic notes together as the song punches along. Lyrically, you’re not going to find a more apt tune today, or for the next few years, with the song hopefully reminding us all just to breathe, let the world move around you and just take care of yourself…sometimes we need a reminder. The band drop Process on March 18th via Exploding in Sound/Misteltone Records.

Straight Banger From Stuck

Looking for some short and sweet rock music to brighten up your day and get you ready for the weekend? Well, then you need look no further than this new single “City of Police” from Chicago quartet Stuck. It is most definitely a song inspired by the post-punk genre but offers a hell of a lot more intensity and passion in it’s 2 minutes than most things I am currently hearing on the scene. I think you’ll dig it as well.;

Stuck will release a new EP entitled Content That Makes You Feel Good on August 13th via Exploding in Sound Records. Pre-orders are live now.
