Mama, we made it! This past weekend, we loaded up our best jousting gear and chain mail armor and made the jaunt out to Sherwood Forest in McDade for the first ever Sound on Sound Festival. With the excellent lineup, new approach to booking a location and trusted leaders at the helm, we knew we were in for a whole different festival experience, but what we got was something that went beyond expectations. We came, we saw, we conquered, and some of us felt as though we’d never be dry again (damn rain!). It was a spectacular weekend filled with merriment and music– read on for ATH’s thoughts on day one and to relive Friday with B.Gray’s pretty pics.
Hey did you hear a festival is going on this weekend? You didn’t? What an idiot. So yeah the brand spanking new Sound on Sound Festival is going down this weekend at Sherwood Forest and we are of course here again to prepare you for the weekend. As usual, we’ve got some sweet interviews lined up with some of our favorite bands on the bill. I say we kick this thing off with one of our favorite acts all time, Wild Nothing. Jack Tatum has always made incredible music and has always been a true class act. Check out his responses to our S.O.S. questions after the jump.
The Austin City Limits Festival lineup was announced earlier this morning, and as rumored by everyone, Radiohead will be headlining both weekends. As usual I’m digging on the undercard with bands like Frightened Rabbit, Mr. Conor Oberst, and Saint Motel as highlights for me. And it looks like we’ll getting some Flying Lotus action back in Austin after the unfortunate turn of events around Levitation Festival. Once again the festival has put together two weekends worth of solid music. Tickets are now available here for both weekends. Full lineup here or click on the image attached.
We hope with our interviews you guys are getting some exposure to a few acts you may not have known about coming in for SXSW. That’s the goal with these things anyway… It’s hard to believe that we are now under a week to go, but I’m finally feeling ready. Today let’s look at another band’s perspective on the festival from Minneapolis based group Carroll. Follow the jump for more.
Moving along with our coverage for ACL is yet another interview with a band we’ve talked about quite a bit in the past. Today our spotlight and interview comes from the boys in Beat Connection. Band member Reed Juenger was kind enough to answer our burning questions and you can find his answers after the jump.
I am ready for SXSW. I think. Whatever mindset you are in, tons of bands are about to descend on our town next week who are all ready and willing to take us by storm. Today I’m pumped to share yet another festival oriented interview with you from Grand Rapids based Heaters. Now these guys are dropping a new 7″ single on April 28th via Beyond Beyond is Beyond Records and you should most definitely pre-order it right now. Follow the jump for full interview.
Hard to believe that SXSW is just one more short week away right? Believe it or not, it’s all about to go down. We are of course not done with our pre-festival coverage and have more interviews, spotlights, and lists coming your way. Today I’m pleased to share with you a SXSW interview with Portland based group Summer Cannibals. This band is on my short list of acts to see during the week and I recommend that they make your list as well. Follow the jump for more.
SXSW is how soon you say? Hard to believe we are just a short couple of weeks away at this point. I’m not sure any of us are ever fully prepared, but we will find a way to power through. Speaking of powering through, I’m excited today to share with you a new interview with up and coming Chicago punks Typesetter. I’m personally pretty pumped to catch their live set during the week. Follow the jump to see what they have to say.
Ladies and gents we are in full SXSW coverage mode and going as strong as ever. The interviews will continue to role in and today I’m excited to share with you this one from Atlanta based Royal Thunder. From what I understand, this band is ready to melt some faces here in Austin wether you’re ready or not. Check out responses after the jump.
