ACL Gimme 5 – Drew Holcomb

Hopefully those of you attending Weekend One of ACL Festival have survived and are possibly looking forward to another 3 days of fun in the cooler weather. I know I am looking forward to it and especially the new acts for W2. Drew Holcomb is one such act who didn’t play last weekend so he seems like a great choice to continue our Gimme 5 ACL playlists this week. He’s featured a few artists not yet mentioned by previous band so it should offer you something new. Hit the jump for his words and picks.

ACL Preview: Exit Music For A Festival

Shockingly enough, it’s already October, the weather is changing, and it’s time again for another round of Austin City Limits. Imagine that, I’m offering a post with advice for the old folks and I mention the weather! Time to settle in to Overture. Hey, I hear the food is great! But seriously folks, ACL is kicking off on Friday and the lineup yet again has a great deal to offer for fans of all styles of music. For the ever aging ATH crew, we typically look towards middle tier acts like Fidlar, Cherry Glazerr, The Comet is Coming, Otis the Destroyer, and Idles so we can get in early and leave before the crowds grow. For us, headliners usually kick off the end of the night as we head for the exits and home to our warm beds. Many memories have been made dodging water moccasins near the lake as Bob Dylan plays a nearly unrecognizable rendition of “Highway 61 Revisited”. Hit the jump for more!

ATH & ACL 2018: A Weekend One Recap

As you likely know, many of your faithful ATH crew members ventured out this weekend to take part in this thing called Austin City Limits Festival. Have you heard of it? It’s kind of a big deal. As always, the festival was run smooth like a baby’s bottom and a good time was had by all. Part of what we do to earn our keep is to offer opinions on the music side of things and overall thoughts/concerns from the weekend. Each member of the team who attended this weekend will share their own opinions.

Follow the jump for more from me and Nicole with a little gallery from around the grounds by bgray.

ATH Abroad: Secret Solstice – 2018

It’s a crazy thing to travel abroad right now as an American with everything that’s going on (wrong) in our country. One can feel embarrassed, guilty, or even ashamed to admit your nationality while trying to blend in with the locals and keep your voice down. What better way though to bring people together, regardless of background or political affiliation, than a massive, 3 day music festival. Secret Solstice Festival in Reykjavik allowed the wife and I to act as locals while soaking up some great new Icelandic music and enjoy the weather, the food, and the culture.

Secret Solstice 2018

Hey do you remember that time when I went all the way over to Iceland for a music festival? Yeah it was quite awhile ago so maybe you don’t keep detailed notes on my whereabouts over the last several years… Well the wife and I had so much fun 4 years ago that we’ve decided to return to Iceland and attend the Secret Solstice Festival in June. It must tell you something about how the event is run and the quality of the festival as a whole for two Texans to travel all that way again. This time we plan to do things right by flying direct out of Dallas instead of a massive layover in NYC. Oh and we’ll probably buy out the duty free store right after we land. If all this sounds interesting to you, hit the jump for links to buy tickets and some thoughts on the 2018 lineup/event.

ACL 2017 – An ATH Playlist

Well ACL is officially here ladies and germs. Hopefully you’ve looked over your schedule a bit or maybe checked out some guides and interviews provided by your trusty ATH staff. If you’re still in need of some musical recommendations, I spent a bit of time this week putting together a playlist of my top bands for both weekends. It’s lengthy so skip anything you aren’t feeling and hit the ACL schedule for anything that catches your ear. I recommend a little shuffle action.

Sound on Sound Recap – Friday

sos-friday-036Mama, we made it! This past weekend, we loaded up our best jousting gear and chain mail armor and made the jaunt out to Sherwood Forest in McDade for the first ever Sound on Sound Festival. With the excellent lineup, new approach to booking a location and trusted leaders at the helm, we knew we were in for a whole different festival experience, but what we got was something that went beyond expectations. We came, we saw, we conquered, and some of us felt as though we’d never be dry again (damn rain!). It was a spectacular weekend filled with merriment and music– read on for ATH’s thoughts on day one and to relive Friday with B.Gray’s pretty pics.
