Flat Worms Share Market Forces Single

Started off the day with a little bit of mellow tunes on my day, so its great that this Flat Worms tune popped into the inbox with news of their new record, Antartica. I love the fact that this song hits you right from the start, blasting through your speakers after 11 seconds of toying with your emotions. The vocals come in with this sort of disaffected stalking, circling about you as a slight guitar line cascades through the distance. Throughout the song they flex their chops, bringing in this sort of classic alternative guitar sound known for its punishment on your ear drums, perhaps due to the mixing work of Ty Segall and Steve Albini. Their new LP drops on God? Records on April 10th.

New Jam from Flat Worms

Been spending most of this year getting weird on my own, so I figured this new Flat Worms rocker could up the ante on my listening game. There’s a few too many seconds of ghostly sampling to begin, but when the guitars knife their way right into the track, you can feel that natural urge to run amok like a crazed fan. I’m totally hooked on the pogoing bass line here, dancing in step with the angular guitar chords walking you across a tight rope of frantic noise; it works well with the indifferent approach of the vocals, crafting the perfect juxtaposition. You’ll find their new EP on February 8th via God? Records.

Hey There, Flat Worms

flatwormsWhile people reading the press release for Flat Worms will gravitate towards “members of Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall,” the reason I caught onto this was that it features Will of Dream Boys. It’s always interesting to see how people that can play wonderful jangling pop songs can turn on a knife’s edge with some pummeling punk, like Flat Worms. It sort of sounds a little bit like a murkier version of the Spits, in my eyes, so that gets an additional nod in my book. The new project will release the Red Hot Sand 7″ on April 29th via Volar.
