Austin Spotlight: Basketball Shorts

10449943_776955792327118_3148740025931230137_nLocal label Fleeting Youth has been blowing our minds lately with all of the stellar bands they’ve been picking up on their roster.  Today the label has a new track for us from already somewhat well known Austin band Basketball Shorts.  Our new jam is called “Candy Boys” and you can expect a short, fast, in your face sort of pop-punk tune.  It’s a promising track for one of Austin’s fastest up and comers at the moment.

The aforementioned Fleeting Youth Records will be releasing a split cassette featuring more tracks from Basketball Shorts and several others from Canadian based Surfin’ Mutants Pizza Party.  Pre-order that one now and expect a ship date of July 22nd.

Enjoy This Track From Balue

BaluefyrThanks to our amigos over at Fleeting Youth Records here in Austin, we’ve been hearing about all kinds of great new bands from different parts of the country.  Today we bring you new signee to the label in the form of New Mexico based pop group Balue.  The music created here is like a mixture of 1st album era MGMT mixed with shoe-gazy pop bands like Painted Palms.  Somehow these elements blend perfectly together to create some special moments like in this song “Charming Flow”.

Pick up new album Quiet Dreamer on June 24th via Fleeting Youth Records.

Le Rug to Release Compilation with Fleeting Youth Records

lerugWe’re really excited to see what our hometown friends over at Fleeting Youth Records are doing, consistently releasing interesting music across the board.  Their latest announcement is that they’ll be releasing a 32 track compilation with Le Rug, the Brooklyn project of Ray Weiss.  You’ll get a collection of old songs, as well as some of the newer songs, and I think you’ll enjoy jamming to this one today.  It’s a little bit brash, with various yelping moments to bring home the point of the angular post-punk project.  The release will be available on June 17th on both digital and cassette formats.

New Music from Dirty River

dirtyriver2Earlier last year we discovered the local Austin label Fleeting Youth, and while we’re still waiting for their offer to put the Young Girls EP on cassette, we’re pretty impressed with their latest signing, Dirty River.  The New York three pieces offers a slower take on music than some of their label mates, providing you with a country stomp that you’d likely find from your drunken uncle.  They’ll be releasing their self-titled album on the label next week, but you should visit HERE to pre-order your copy.

SXSW Party: Fleeting Youth Records Showcase @ The Owl (3/13)

FYR_SXSW_PARTY

We here at ATH tend to stay away from overloading you with information about SXSW parties, shows, free booze, etc.  If you need that sort of info, I’d recommend showlistaustin or maybe even Do512.  Now what we will do is post about a show when shameless self-promotion is needed.  Today we’re happy to announce a show we (kind of) helped put on with our good friends over at Fleeting Youth Records and Modern Vinyl.  Local and national talent fill the lineup, free booze is included, and of course no silly badge is required.  More deets:

Show time: 2pm – 2am

Location: The Owl Gallery

Lineup: Habits, Clouder, Mumblr, Krill, LA Font, Big Bill, Gunther Doug, Two Inch Astronaut, Grass is Green, Butter the Children, Basketball Shorts, Ghost Wolves, The Chelsea Kills, Bent Shapes

We’ve profiled quite a few of these artists via our SXSW interviews which can be read here.  More info on the Event page.

More New Music From Clouder

Brooklyn boys Clouder have been bringing some great music that I’ve taken a liking to over the last month or so.  The sound could be described as psychedelic, dark pop complete with Morrison like vocals to complete the picture.  It’s an intriguing sound that you don’t hear in the popular indie scene much nowadays and it’s a welcome breath of fresh air.  Check out more music from the band elsewhere on the site.

Get your hands on new album Sister Raygun March 4th via Fleeting Youth Records.

SXSW 2014 Interview: Clouder

SXSW comes earlier and earlier every year doesn’t it?  Prepared or not, the festival is right around the corner and of course we’re going to get you ready as best we can.  Interviews are a great way to get a varying perspective from band and I’m going to kick mine off today with one featuring Brooklyn upstart Clouder.  I haven’t know about these guys too long, but what I’m hearing, I’m digging big time.  Based on these interview responses, I think I might just like the guys even more.  Check it out after the jump. New Single From Clouder

artworks-000069765130-xxl1a4-t500x500Brand new upstart Austin label Fleeting Youth Records has been sending me some great tunes recently which should solidify them as a label to watch in 2014.  This new track called “Lost in Reverie” by Brooklyn based Clouder is yet another tune from this growing collective.  I dig the dark pop sound accompanied by the creepy Jim Morrison like vocals.  Stay tuned for more.

Sophomore album, Sister Raygun, is due out on March 4th.

Austin Spotlight: More New Music From Big Bill

0001548526_20When I first heard about Austin band Big Bill back in July, I immediately was taken by their catchy version of poppy, garage rock style of music.  My love affair with the band was confirmed shortly thereafter when I saw the band live and was extremely impressed with their energy and tightness.  Today the band just sent over this new track called “Juice U” that we deemed worthy of sharing with you guys.  It’s pretty darn great.

This tune will be available on October 29th via a a split 7″ with fellow Austin band Basketball Shorts.  You can pre-order that bad boy now on Fleeting Youth Records.
