By now you should have recovered from your SXSW week and should be feeling up for more live music! Starting the weekend off right with live music, is a Thursday show at Mohawk featuring a 7″ release party by locals She Sir. The guys will be joined on the stage by Motel Aviv and former A2W band Frantic Clam. Should be a solid lil night of local music.

We’ve made it well known on our little webby site that we are big fans of local boys Frantic Clam and their musical stylings. So here’s another chance for us to plug them and for you to see them live at Beauty Bar on Thursday night. This show is to celebrate the release of the band’s new EP which serves as a teaser to the previously mentioned upcoming LP Lolita. Fellow locals MoTel Aviv, The Pons, Candi and the Strangers, and DJ Chzech One will all be on hand to join in the fun. You’ll also find a photo booth sponsored by Trevor Ray and free Treaty Oak Rum(while supplies last). Admission to the event is free before 10pm and only $5 after that ($3 with an RSVP on Do512). Our good friends over at Two Groove are helping putting on a show at Antones on Sunday night featuring some of the best local music Austin has to offer. The lineup includes Speak, Stereo is a Lie, and ATH faves Frantic Clam. You can also expect some photo booth action, goodie bags for the first 30 in attendance, and some other special guests. Ticket prices are directly benefiting the Austin Children’s Shelter so why not hear some good music for a great cause?

We thought about this long and hard, thinking over our favorite releases from bands located in Austin over the last year. Blood was spilled, jabs were thrown, but overall, we feel like we got our hands around the best releases that we feel epitomized the Austin scene in 2009. Don’t forget, we’re particular to our tastes, so while you may disagree, we reserve the right to stand by these ten acts and their albums from 09′. Follow the jump for full list.
Frantic Clam is an Austin band that won us over in 2009 with their stellar EP Anatomica. Now after many lineup changes and some hardcore Austin live dates, the guys are back with new single “Sasha Grey”. This catchy little number is meant as a preview for Frantic Clam’s upcoming debut LP entitled Lolita due out in spring 2010. Wondering who Sasha Grey is? Try searching her name online. Just be careful if you work with young children or have a jealous wife…
