ATH Premiere: Meet Stiletto Feels

stilettofeels-1We here at ATH have long been fans of the craftsmanship of Geoff Earle, formerly of Freshmillions, who now has a brand new project we’d like to introduce you to (and a new record label-GTZ): Stiletto Feels. I’ve been listening to this track quite a bit since Geoff passed it our way; it’s like a blend of Ratatat and MSTRKFT, but with a really smooth soul vocal added to it. You can groove or you can dance, but you’re going to fall in love. It’s going to be the first release for Earle’s new label, GTZ Records, who will be celebrating with a nice Single Release Party on Saturday night over at Empire Control Room. Get into the song below.

Austin Spotlight: The Big Fist

geoffYesterday our friends over at RoA tossed up this great track from The Big Fist, which is the new project of Geoff Earle, who has been one of our long time Austin favorites.  He’s a super talented dude, and after the disbanding of his last group, Freshmillions, he seems to have found his voice again (you know, in case he ever lost it).  It’s a funky track with rad samples and a smooth vocal performance; it just goes to show that there’s hidden gems around every corner in Austin.  We’ll keep you posted on the band when more news comes our way.

Free Week Recommendations for Saturday!!!

We’re coming to the end of the good times, and the weekend is chock full of excellent shows to catch. I encourage you all to get out and support/see as many bands as possible, as that’s what keeps our music community energized…which is something we all claim makes Austin great, so we gotta support it.  Here are my suggestions.

Punk Show @ Mohawk — A Giant Dog, OBN IIIs, Grape Street — Some of the best acts in Austin for rock n’ roll of the faster sort.

Quiet Company @ the Swan Dive — The group released an excellent album last year, so catch em’ while they’re hot.

Fresh Millions @ The Parish — We’ve raved about these bros for ages, and it’s a requirment that you catch them at least once in your lifetime. Do it now. Free.

Rock Show @ Beauty Bar — Ringo Deathstarr and Black Books, just to name a few.  Do we need to say more? Those acts alone make it worth your time!

Sample these tracks from Freshmillions and Black Books:

New Track from Freshmillions

Long have we been fans of the great Austin group, Freshmillions. They’re at it again already, giving us all a taste of new music this past weekend.  The band have two tracks up now for free download, and it’s straight-up danceable fun, which is exactly what we expect the group to bring our way.  They don’t just toss sweet tracks our way, they also bring a killer live show to the stage wherever they go.  You’ll want to catch their act during SXSW, with a whole slew of shows lined up for you guys over at their page. If you like this new track, they’ve also got another one for your ears, and its all free over at their site, so get there soon!

FreshMillions @ Beauty Bar (7/3)

Date Saturday, July 3rd
Location Beauty Bar
Doors 900p
Tickets At the door!

We’ve been hyping up Austin band FreshMillions a lot lately, and deservedly so.  You’ll get a chance to catch the talented act this Saturday night, a night dedicated to glorious dance music.  Legendary DJ Tommie Sunshine will be spinning the headlining spot, and All My Friends are opening up the evening.  You’ll love the local Austin act, and I can admit, though I’m not dancing inclined as of late, Tommie knows how to kick a killer beat on the dance floor.  So why not celebrate your July 4th Eve with one of Austin’s hottest bands, and one the US’ hottest DJs. Do it!

A2W: FreshMillions!

We spend a lot of our time focusing on the rock around Austin, but rest assured, we love to shake it just as much as the next guy does.  Recently, the Austin scene has been boosted by the rise of FreshMillions! , and their main guy Geoff Earle.  They’ve been hitting the town with the likes of Focus Group and L.A.X. (who they will be supporting May 19th), making a name for themselves with electrifying shows that leave the audience drenched in sweat and coated in euphoria.  Not to mention that a lot of people love the fact that Bryan Ritchie of The Sword (and Skate or Die) helped produce the record, but as much as we love Bryan, you have to know that those groove-tastic bass lines and electric shine were all there beforehand.  Be sure to check out the band’s self-titled debut record, and attend one of their live shows because pretty soon, the whole town will be aboard this dance-a-riffic party bus of fun.

We’ve been playing a lot of the A EP from local group L.A.X, and it’s time that you get your hands on the album yourself.  Luckily for us all, the CD release for the band has finally arrived, and you can find yourself in a hot mess by heading to the Parish this Thursday night.  Expect to find yourself sweaty and smiling by the time you leave, not to mention the fact that you’ll have a brand new disc to spin around the house.  Get there early as you’ll really want to see A2W FreshMillions, as well as Missions. Hope to see you there supporting the local scene.

ATX Converge @ Mohawk (9/19)

We just discovered that the White Denim show posted on the Mohawk website is actually a free by RSVP show put on by ATX Converge.  The lineup is pretty dang impressive: White Denim, Black Joe Lewis, Freshmillions and Belaire will all be on hand.  The show isn’t until Friday, but you better RSVP now before the window closes.  Make sure you get in line early since those RSVPs rarely guarantee you get in anything.  Doors are at 8.
