When I look at the Fun Fun Fun Fest lineup for the weekend, trend setting new band Active Child is one of my must sees of the festival. We caught the live act a couple of years ago, serving as an introduction to the band, and the ATH crew has been fans ever since. Lucky for you and I, the brains behind Active Child, Pat Grossi, made some time to answer a few of our questions. Follow the jump for more.
It’s almost here people. That’s right, Fun Fest is just a mere 2 days away, and ATH is of course pumped for the weekend. As usual, we hit up a few bands prior to the fest to ask them a few questions about life. First up on the list is veteran act Quasi. Follow the jump for more.
Those of us who adored punk rock have been salivating about this show every since FFF announced that they’d be bringing back Television to their yearly festival. I don’t know how they do it, but they always bring a band out of the woodwork that deserves some acclaim for all their accomplishments. Television is one such band; they were part of the punk scene in the 70s, and though they branched out a bit into their own realm, they definitely helped define the sound, especially with some of the groups that wanted to expand beyond the short fury of CBGBs. I might speak for myself, as opposed to the whole ATH crew, but this is the absolute top of my list for the upcoming festival. Ever so often we get to witness a group reemerge that defined who we were as children or teenagers, and I know my record collection owes a great deal to the work the band did. If you’re going to catch one band this weekend, this is my MUST see.

Fun Fest is now just a few short days away and the ATH crew couldn’t be more excited for the big event. With just those few days left, we plan on highlighting a ton more bands we’re excited about seeing this weekend. Today I give you legendary rock group The Walkmen. Follow the jump for more.
Fun Fun Fun Fest is a week away.
Among the artists coming that I have been a fan of for a long time, one that I have always had a conflict to prevent me seeing live set is Bonobo. Dial ‘M’ For Monkey is a mandatory road trip album. Can’t recall what was going on that I couldn’t make the show earlier this year at Emo’s, but I missed it. While Simon Green is touring with a band, he is also one helluva DJ. If you aren’t familiar with The Boiler Room, get familiar. It is a great way to soundtrack your late night activities.

I feel like this might be one of the two artists I feel the most involved with at Fun Fun Fun Fest. I know for a large group of my friends, not to mention others I’ve talked to, that Blake Schwarzenbach has been a huge part of our musical education. For me, it started with his role in Jawbreaker; they were one of the group’s I couldn’t get enough of as a late teenager. Then, as I grew up, my tastes expanded, as did his when he began work on Jets to Brazil. And most recently, he’s been working with Forgetters, which I’ve grown to like after belated listening. However, I can’t honestly say that I have any idea what he’s going to bring to the table at FFF; I’ve heard he’s pretty against playing any Jawbreaker tunes, so I’ll just hope for my favorite JTB tunes. No matter what you’re into nowadays, it’d be hard to go back and ignore the huge influence Blake’s had on so many acts that followed. Hit the play traingle for a pair of my favorite Blake related tunes from Jets to Brazil and Jawbreaker.

I couldn’t even begin to guess how many times I’ve heard that opening line from Deltron 3030’s self-titled debut from 2000. Okay, if I HAD to guess, I’d say it’s somewhere in the hundreds. Happy now? More after the jump.
Get ready people, Fun Fun Fun Fest is upon us. Festival season is a fickle beauty. It enchants you with dance and libations and wrecks your perception of reality and your liver.
The wife and I will celebrate fifteen years of marriage on the day before FFF8. Cut Copy is her favoritest. Free Your Mind like Neo jumping off a building and dance a little. Here is perfect synths pop dance jam called “We Are Explorers” to get you in the mood for Friday on the Orange Stage.

You know, we leave a lot to be desired when it comes to covering indie hip-hop. This post proves we acknowledge you might want to nod yo head.
RJD2 has put out some pretty sweet records to kill time to and the latest album will be out soon, October 8th if you must know. The album is called More Is Than Isn’t and you can stream all of it over at Potholes In My Blog. This track features a collaboration with Phonte Coleman. It is a slick jam.
RJD2 will be at FFF8.

As has become tradition, those of you that just don’t get enough jams during the day at Fun Fun Fun Fest are treated to a bevy of artists that will play sets at venues around Red River. The final schedule is TBD, but at least you can start planning your must-haves and can-skips knowing you have a second shot at chilling with the artists in the poster in the corner of this post.
FFF’s web minions notified us an interactive lineup by day and stage has been unleashed, so if you want pick a single day to party ultra hard instead of surviving three days of festing, you can purchase a single day ticket starting tomorrow for $79. There are also going to be some discounted student wristbands. I am signing up for a karate lesson to qualify.
