Show Pics: Shivery Shakes @ Antone’s (9/18)

ATH Records had yet another record hit the streets with Shivery ShakesWeird Weather. Naturally, we should have a party. I was bummed to have been travelling when everyone was celebrating label mates Mean Jolene, so it was the key objective for my week to be out and about on a school night to listen to the dudes play the new record front to back. Antone’s was a lovely host. Click through for pics a plenty that includes friends Slomo Drags and Go Fever who were kind enough to also share jams and sell us more merch.

Another Hit from Go Fever

I’ve always enjoyed Go Fever, but if there’s an Austin band that I’m pulling for this year, it’s them! They already dropped one anthemic gem of a pop tune, and with their latest single they don’t look to stop. Acey walks into the song with this seemingly sullen attitude; it’s a cool effort, though you get the feeling by the increased paced of the percussion that we’re in for more. Suddenly you’re thrust into this twirling chorus, dizzying in its pop sensibility, bordering on over the top. But, therein lies the brilliance…they bring cool back to saccharine that hits home for us all. The group should have a new effort coming right around the corner.

Austin Recap with Go Fever and A Sinclair and Taft

Austin had a huge week, and we did our best to cover it all, but lets circle back for a few really great things we missed that I want on your radar. T

Go Fever: They have a new record coming out next year, and this first single is pretty special. It’s got a slight bit of bravado, giving an aura of punk lineage, but this is every bit an anthemic pop song. It walks that fine line between cool and widely accessible…this could be the band’s breakout hit!

A Sinclair: We’ve been writing about A. Sinclair in some fashion since our site’s inception, and with a new single, the band are back. This one has this soulful indie rock vibe, with really sharp riffs and wonderful backing vocals adding depth to the band’s sound. New LP on its way in 2019.

Taft: I’ll never understand why people in Austin sleep on Taft. His angelic voice always is at the top of my arbitrary best of Austin list. But, his care in song craft is what’s always made him so special, whether working on other people’s music, or the careful layers he adds to his own work. Here’s to hoping Goodnight, Plum builds on all that we know and love about Taft.

Mean Jolene and Pollen Rx Tour Kick Off at Hotel Vegas on Friday

Friday night, there’s only one place you really really need to be: Hotel Vegas. There’s a phenomenal show at Hotel Vegas, featuring several of the ATH Records act who are about to hit the road, namely Mean Jolene and Pollen RX. They’ll be joined by other powerhouse acts like Big Bill, Go Fever and Leather Girls (who have a rad new LP coming soon). Bands need money to hit the road, so come get yourself a cool t-shirt or an LP, then stay for the ridiculously solid line up of Austin acts. Stream some releases from the bands that I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of with ATH Records.
