We Should All Listen to gobbinjr

The first eleven seconds of the new gobbinjr tune are all you’ll need; they draw you in before the song jumps off at the 12 second mark. A spinning twirling pop number with a natural bounce from the percussive work. Emma’s voice charms immediately, rising and falling in step with the song, not a far off cry from a young Jenny Lewis…with just the slightest hint of childlike wonderment. Something about this song hints at a purity in the songwriting that will surely leave it on year end lists for those with pop sensibility; it really is that good. Look for her album Ocala Wick to drop on June 8th via Topshelf Records.

New Tune From gobbinjr

gobbinjrIf you like weirdo pop, and you know you do, then this new track from gobbinjr is sure to tickle your fancy. Emma Witmer is the mind behind the moniker that is making these slightly off-kilter pop tunes, and this new track, “firefly,” certainly fits that bill. The song starts with whirling, carousel style synthesizers that bounce all around, while Witmer’s sugary vocals sing you sinister lines like “I just want the human race to die.” This track is part of gobbinjr’s upcoming EP,Vom Night, which you can pre-order here. It’s out November 4th.

Pleased to Meet You: Gobbinjr

gobbinjrI really have no idea what lurks behind the name of Gobbinjr or the brand new album manlang, but musically, it really quite intersesting, if not quite pertinent to this week’s listening rotation. It’s all the work of New York’s Emma Witmer, and there’s a couple of tracks I’d like you to listen to today. “BB Gurl” is the first single, and it’s a bit of twinkling pop, akin to early sounds of Rilo Kiley.  Still, there’s this dreamier sound hiding behind the song, which is why I wanted to share “No Name” too, as it’s one of the album’s best tunes. It takes on a more solemn approach, and in doing so, it tugs at the heart quite a bit…stellar tune. You can order it from Gold Flake Tapes if you’re interested, as you should be!
