Good Morning Share Classic Quip

If ever there was a non-punk version of Parquet Courts, then that award would go to this brand new track from Good Morning, off their new LP. It’s weird, it has one foot in that sort of nonchalant cool, while also kind of looking back upon the dreaded “dole-wave” sound of the band’s homeland; I can even here parts, however, that sound an awful lot like they just picked up where Beat Happening left off. You just don’t come by good consistent pop bands nowadays, but this bunch has been doing it for sometime. Speaking of, today they release Basketball Breakups, and they’ll be in North America at the end of the month…so sample these tunes before they come to the streets of your town.

Good Morning Announce Basketball Breakups

I’m pretty anxiously awaiting the US arrival of Good Morning; I’ve been jamming to the band for several years, and this will the first time to step foot on our soil (as a band anyways). It looks like they’ll be doing so with a new record, their second this year, in tow, as today they announce Basketball Breakups with a brand new single. This song and its accompanying video are equally charming. The guitars have this tornado of light jangle working around the casual vocal delivery; the video is entirely filmed inside an IKEA, though I’m a bit bummed they didn’t seem to sample the meatballs. Some bands get prolific and then they get boring, but Good Morning seems to be taking it all in stride, and our ears are better for it. Their US tour runs from October thru November.

Good Morning Share New Songs + NA Tour News

I’ve been following Good Morning for some time, but with their latest the Option, it seemed like things were clicking on all cylinders in their songwriting…and here they are with two brand new tunes for us to enjoy. “Take It Easy For Me, Stranger” has this solemnity in its melancholy offering; it’s like a blanket of quiet was just sort of draped across the world with only this song remaining audible. “Boy, I’m Just a Loser for Your Love” almost has this Western vibe, but I’m particularly drawn to the fragility in the vocals, almost crackling in the mix before our ears. Luckily, these two songs come with a North American tour announcement for late October, with an Austin date included at the Mohawk on Nov. 1st.

Stream Good Morning From Counterfeit Jeans

Not so long ago we shared with you a newly discovered Vancouver band going by the name of Counterfeit Jeans. Well now the boys have sent along their complete new album Good Morning and we are happy to share a complete stream with you below. What I dig most about this band is my complete inability to pin them down into one specific genre. At times, you can hear atmospheric backgrounds like on opening track “Osiris”, but then the band will throw you for a loop with a more noise rock sound on a track like “Medication”. This band is multifaceted with a ton of new layers to discover each time you listen to Good Morning.

If you’re into it, this album is currently for sale via Vancouver label Kingfisher Bluez.

New Music from Counterfeit Jeans

Trolling labels always turns up something, even in the dead part of the year. I always keep an eye on Kingfisher Bluez, a label after my own heart with a pretty diverse catalog that branches all over the place. The label just upped a track from their first release in 2019, the new LP from Counterfeit Jeans. It’s melodic noise rock at its finest, offering up these discordant guitars chugging from the get go, while the vocals have this tendency to sore brightly amidst the song’s natural chaos. The LP is titled Good Morning, and it looks like it will drop in February of next year; I’ll keep you posted.

Good Morning Drop Two New Singles

Just a few weeks ago we were alerted to the news that Aussie act Good Morning would finally be releasing a new full-length via Bedroom Suck Records. And now, we’ve got two new tracks to sit back and enjoy this morning, reveling in the duo’s songwriting. “Just a Man” is slightly playful, though it draws in some folk traditions, particularly in the way the vocals are presented. “For a Little While” is more of a slow burner, working over electronic beats and piano to craft a powerful ballad. If you’re unfamiliar with the band, give these a listen, as I’m sure you won’t be let down. Prize//Reward will drop on may 11th.

Theres a Good Morning LP on Its Way

I’ve written about Good Morning in some form or fashion almost every year, and while that seems to have stretched back to forever, the band are just now announcing their debut LP, Prize//Reward. It’s interesting, as we get two new tracks to share with you today, yet they’re both offering a slightly different sound than what we’ve heard previously. Honestly, this sounds like a band that decided to write a record where Pedro the Lion and Beat Happening were huge influences, of course, I could be completely off with that. Maybe the current love of Hovvdy would be an apt comparison…if you threw in a slight Woods influence. You see, the group provide an all encompassing pop sound the whole world is going to love. Their new LP drops on May 11th via Bedroom Suck Records.

Stream Step Aside/Oppsie from Good Morning

I’m a huge fan of Good Morning, and if you need an introduction, I suggest grabbing their compilation of EPs that just recently saw a release from Bedroom Suck Records. Today we’re happy to share with you two songs, united in the below clip as one. If you’re a fan of the group, you’ve likely heard these tracks before, but now, they’re ready for the whole world to enjoy. The subtle joy of “Step Aside” fades right into the more meandering pop of “Oppsie” right at the 3:06 mark, with both illustrating the sensible pop that I’m known to fawn over. If you like what you hear, you can grab the new single from Bedroom Suck Records now.

Bedroom Suck Records to Reissue Good Morning

I’m not typically one to get into the reissue game, as far as posting goes, but I feel like Australia’s Good Morning has been vastly overlooked…though I pointed them out here long ago. Luckily, the good folks over at Bedroom Suck Records will be re-releasing the band’s Shawcross and Glory EPs on one 12″, with additional singles like the delightful pop tune lurking on the pages below. To me, this feels like what’s really going on down in Australia, offering sublime pop sensibility in a casual manner that begs for listen after listen. Look to get your hands on a copy come July 7th.

More from Good Morning

12622106_1636567596608368_9213207835973974193_oAs last year came to a close, we brought you a tune from the latest Good Morning release, “Cab Deg,” which we were really excited about. On their newest single, things have been stripped down, releasing a solemnity that’s both soothing and intriguing. I love the feeling of a good home recording, there’s something comforting in that…and while this may be a studio track, it has the personal feel of that bedroom soliloquy. The group’s second EP, Glory, is set to be released early next week via the folks over at Solitaire Recordings.
