Jamie XXThis appears to be the summer of The Mohawk for me. At least once a week, more like twice a week right now and that probably won’t stop on average for the duration of the triple-digit season.

Most recently, I was around for a mini-festival presented by our blog friend Gorilla vs. Bear up in Dallas. The Granada played host up IH35. The peeps at The Mohawk agreed, why not play host to all involved and give the bands another date while in Texas before heading their separate ways? Austin’s lineup was Jamie XX, Lower Dens, Bop English, Tei Shi, Yumi Zouma, Prince Innocence and DJ Sober. Not a bad little way to occupy a Saturday night, a night that had a SxSW showcase feeling without the day-drunk post-buzz.

New Tunes from Leichtenstein

liechtenstein2It seems Slumberland can’t really go wrong with their picks of bands to support, and our friend GVSB has found yet another band on the small label worthy of our interest. Sweden’s Liechtenstein recall a lot of that all girl aesthetic encouraged by bands like Vivian Girls. Here is a new track for you to enjoy. The band will be releasing their album Survival Strategies in a Modern World on May 26th.

SXSW Recaps

As you eagerly await our recap of a few things SXSW (we promise we’ll keep it brief), why not head over to some other super sites with tons more information than we plan on having.  Our friends Ultra8201 have some great shots of Kanye along with a ton of other coverage.  Sonic Itch has cool video of Dan Aurbach at The Parish.  Gorilla Vs. Bear already has some of his fancy polaroids up.  Austinist has a nice news and photos section as well.  New York Times even tells us how much stuff costs and who the hell pays for it.  Check back later for our top bands of the week that was SXSW.
