Another New Hospital Ships Tune

hospitalThe newest track from Hospital Ships isexactly why you’ll be listening to this record non-stop come it’s release. It’s the prefect balance of precision and delicacy; it’s music in movement, stretching over seven minutes long. There’s such patience and restraint in every note that it begins to mesmerize the listeners; one must have reserve to fully absorb the melody as it’s stretched to the maximum. Look for The Past is Not a Flood on via Graveface Records on March 11th.

Fuzzed Out Pop from TW Walsh

tdubsThis tune from TW Walsh should catch your ears today, at least I think so. There’s a fuzz coming out of your speakers, but it’s definitely meant to sit there, adding an extra layer to the work Walsh is trying to create. Story has it that a long period of illness led him to craft the tunes in his head, compiling those sounds with modern recording technology. His harmonic melodies definitely break through the haze that’s presented as the background, as keys and handclaps tinker about in the distance. Look for his new effort Fruitless Research via Graveface Records on February 12th.

Gem Of A Track From Gramma’s Boyfriend

11181087_964236080284251_3366262575382778148_nGramma’s Boyfriend, who currently hail out of the Twin Cities of Minnesota, are about to blow your mind on this Wednesday. They’ve debuted the killer track that I have for you below, “Forget The Stones” a few weeks back, but trust me when I say that you don’t want to miss out on this tune. It’s a perfect blend of genre, with pulsating synths that never stop, tart guitars that pierce the mix, and hazy power vocals that add a layer of mystique to the music. The track is at once immediately intriguing, grabbing your attention right out of the gate, but then the layers of the tune will keep you coming back again and again. Gramma’s Boyfriend are releasing their sophomore album, Perm, via Graveface Records on October 9th, so don’t miss out on that one. Preorder it here.

Whirr Offer Up New Song

wereThis track from Whirr is really something.  The quiet opening sets the perfect stage for the outfit to crash into your ears with a heavy-handed bit of drumming surrounded by a wall of atmospheric noise that bends and shapes its way around the soft vocal.  The recording is one of the better versions I’ve heard from the modern shoegaze-ish era, building this remarkable balance between the vocals and the instrumentation; it makes the song seem more cohesive, as if it was all one thought, rather than someone lumping in one or the other for effect.  Their album, Sway, will be released on September 23rd via Graveface Records. Austinites can check them out on Sept. 6th over at Red 7.

Heavy Tune From The Casket Girls

SONY DSCMan I’ve really been feeling this new track “Same Side” from Savannah based outfit The Casket Girls.  It’s been on my short “for my eyes only” playlist over the last day or so and I can’t seem to get enough.  I dig the heaviness of the song mixed in the almost angelic like vocals coming from leading vocalists, and sisters, Phaedra and Elsa Greene.  Check it out and tell me you’re not enjoying it as much as me.

Check out the group’s new album, True Love Kills the Fairy Tale, due out February 11th on Graveface Records.

Appleseed Cast Are Back

Appleseed Cast copy

I think we all know by now that I am the resident Appleseed Cast fanatic around these parts and I plan to keep it that way.  Today I was surprised and excited to see a new song called “Great Lake Derelict” floating around on the internet via various sites.  The Cast have been very quiet since the release of their last album Sagarmatha in 2009, so you can imagine my anticipation of new music from the band.  You can tell by the photo that the band lineup has changed drastically since their beginnings (only Chris Crisci remains from the original lineup), but the sound really isn’t all that different to me.  Though the drums are a bit sloppy and the whirling organ is new, the atmospheric, driving qualities are all still there.  It’s a badass song that I hope won’t go unnoticed by the indie world.  Respect the Cast.

New album Illumination Ritual is out April 23rd on Graveface Records.

New Music From Appleseed Cast

It’s quite apparent that I love the Appleseed Cast, duh.  I remember watching their set at Fun Fest this past year and wondering why more people weren’t screaming “THE CAST!” like I was.  Sure, the newer stuff isn’t quite as enjoyable as the old favorites, but it’s still solid.  So today I’m pumped to hear about a new EP from the band entitled Middle States coming our way June 7th on Graveface Records.  Also with this news comes the first taste of the EP in the form of new song “Middle States”.  It really reminds me of something from the Low Level Owl albums, which I’m sure plenty of people will be on board with.  To say I’m excited about this change in sound direction would be a major understatement.  THE CAST!
