We thought about this long and hard, thinking over our favorite releases from bands located in Austin over the last year.  Blood was spilled, jabs were thrown, but overall, we feel like we got our hands around the best releases that we feel epitomized the Austin scene in 2009.  Don’t forget, we’re particular to our tastes, so while you may disagree, we reserve the right to stand by these ten acts and their albums from 09′.  Follow the jump for full list.

Our friend over at Austin Eavesdropper had such a good time with her first Blogger Bleet Up back in July that she decided to throw a bigger and better event leading up to Fun Fest on Thursday night.  This go around anyone and everyone is invited and can gain entry with an RSVP and $7 cash.  Bands have also been included for the event and include locals The Lennings, Built by Snow, Corto Maltese, Policitcs, Sad Accordions, and Great Nostalgic.  You can also expect photo booths, giveaways (maybe of the fun fest variety), tasty drinks, and a lot more.  Check out the Eavesdropper site for more info.

One time Austin artist to watch band Great Nostalgic are back with some new material after the release of their stellar debut album earlier this year.  This new track is called “Spirit World” and will appear on an upcoming 7″ due out later this year on Nov. 21st.  These guys continue to amaze us with the quality of their song writing and recording quality.  Oh and check out that new press photo!

As we see it, we’re about midway through the year as far as record releases go, seeing as how no one really puts albums out in December for fear of being left off year-end lists. Since we’ve hit the half-way mark, we thought we would throw out a list of our Top 5 Records so far this year. Great Nostalgic is a band we’ve been following closely since we first discovered them so we were of course excited to hear about their CD release party at Hole in the Wall on Friday.  Joining in the party fun will be fellow locals Sunset and The Sour Notes.  The show should be a unique and new twist on your usual Great Nostalgic set because the band has invited the horn section from Hard Proof Afrobeat to play on a few songs.  Show starts at 10pm with door charge being $3.  The band will also be selling copies of their debut LP for $8 which includes a  bonus disc of remixes done by local DJs.  Here’s one of those new remixes available exclusively on ATH done by local DJ Business Man.

Several great local and rising to fame acts will be playing at Mohawk on Thursday night.  The lineup features Great Nostalgic (who have a great new album you need), Frantic Clam, Whitman, and The Bubbles.  Frequent visitors to our site know that we give lots of coverage to these bands and always support you seeing them live.  If you’ve got a little bit of time on your hands, head over to our friends do512 to like this event and get the buzz train movin!  Music is set to start at 10pm with Great Nostalgic.

Great Nostalgic are a band that we’ve been excited about after we first caught them live during free week at Emo’s. Much to our excitement, the Austin band is finally ready to drop a proper LP your way and we promise it’s going to be one of the year’s best. We’ve got a sneak preview of the new LP with exclusive track “The Kingdom” which should get some buzz going about the effort. The band’s self-titled debut album is available now at local record stores like Waterloo and End of an Ear.

This Friday, Golden Bear will be releasing their newest EP, Everest,  at Club Deville.  Not only will the locals be treated to the great tunes of Golden Bear, but they will also get to witness one of our favorite acts, as The Great Nostalgic will also be opening the evening’s festivities.  Rumor has it that Pink Nasty will be on hand to play a set as well.  Show begins around 9, so get there and have fun.
