Punky Ditty from Blues Lawyer

Can’t say that we know too much about Blues Lawyer, though we know the band is about set to release their debut Guess Work via the trustworthy label, Emotional Response. We do know that Dick Stusso is involved, as well as a few other members from the San Francisco scene. This track comes in with angular chords, matter of fact vocal delivery, with a slight female accompaniment; it’s like Ought just decided to write straightforward hits with a heavier dosage of pop sensibility. It ends up sounding sort of old school, and that, in and of itself is rather refreshing; the album drops April 20th.

ATH Records to Work with The Ocean Party

oceanpartyUp until now, I’ve stuck mostly close to home for releasing records via ATH Records, and I’ve been really proud of that.  But, every once in a while, you have to step outside your comfort box and do something big.  So, I’ve decided to work with Spunk Records and the Aussie outfit, The Ocean Party.  They’ve already got a couple of great releases to their name, which we’ve covered on our site, so I’m really happy to be part of this new effort, Light Weight. The album will be out in October, but for now, you can grab a download of their excellent first single below.

Check HERE for updates and other ATH Records releases like Rose Sélavy/Templo X and the Lochness Mobsters (both out this week).

Fresh Work from The Ocean Party

11018724_10153007025987263_1810945132717656803_oWhat a week! Two of my favorite Australian acts have released new music, meaning new records are on the way! First, there was last week’s hit from The Crayon Fields, and now we’ve got the steady guitar pop of The Ocean Party.  I always appreciated the band’s approach to songwriting; it always seemed so  relaxed and effortless. But, this latest single shows some growth, especially during the chorus where the piano explodes and the vocals take on a loftier note.  There’s no word exactly on a release date, but it looks as if the group will have more enjoyable tunes underway that we’ll all soon enjoy.
