Last Week’s Jams (9.5 – 9.8)

Just because we took Monday off last week, it didn’t mean we were taking it easy; I think I posted 11 things in one day, simply because there’s been so much great jams to get turned onto. Austin had tons of representation with TVs Daniel, Motorsports, Friday Boys, DAIISTAR and Feeling Small, but my own love for Spanish-language pop was made all the better with tunes from Melenas and Mint Field coming our way. Teenage Tom Petties were back for the attack, with a new album announcement. Plus, there’s some reissue news with Kath Bloom and Single Bullet Theory getting coverage. So yeah, music! Whoohoo!

Hotline TNT Announce Cartwheel

It’s early in the morning, so I’ll be honest, I’m not sure how I feel about folks signing to Third Man Records; I’m not sure I’m wholly in the Jack White camp; it’s a weird world where Steve Albini’s out there making merch negotiations for all the musicians. But, what I can say is that the label has another rad band on the roster, with today’s announcement that they’ll be releasing the newest Hotline TNT LP. To me, this single feels like an Will Anderson is channeling an aged emo/post-hardcore kid who just got a Teenage Fanclub mixtape from a friend; the song’s have this wall of noise built in, kicking off the heavier vibes. Still, the central nature of the tune revolves around Anderson’s melodic delivery, the sort of gravitational pull of everything around it. Plus, pretty sure once you dive into the lyrics every single listener can relate. Cartwheel is out November 3rd with a big old tour coinciding with the release!

A Year End List from Joe Trainor of Wildhoney/Dummy

We continue our year-end list from people we love, one of whom is Joe of Wildhoney; he also shared that there’s a new band named Dummy in the works for 2020. Here’s a few words and a list from Joe! And be sure to hit this jump to check out the new 7″ Wildhoney released via Slumberland Records HERE. There’s a cool playlist at the end, with some extras Joe loved in 2019!

Joe: 2019 was a weird year for me and connecting new music, the things I really loved were mostly reissues, things from the past; newer releases were just not inspiring, and it was the first time I can remember this happening and it was, tbh unnerving. Luckily, towards end of the year some things start clicking and I felt inspired and excited again! So here’s some things I really connected with, 5 new releases, 5 reissues/comps and 5 eps/7″.
