LIFE Share New Single, Big Moon Lake

Looks like LIFE have a new record on the way, and I’m totally stoked with this new single; it seems like their sound is hitting just at the perfect time, as folks are clamoring for this brand of punk. Mez Green’s vocal delivery comes off in that very matter-of-fact manner, his voice matching up to the rhythm; I love when he playfully gets a little out there with the tonal notes on the delivery of the line “Don’t go to Big Moon Lake.” Plus, the rhythm section just crushes on this tune, with the guitars adding this harrowing shriek that builds on the band’s noisiness. North East Coastal Town will be out on June 10th via Liquid Label.

BDRMM Share Shame Video

I hate to say I love BDRMM as the group are just making a name for themselves by signing to Sonic Cathedral…but dammit, I love the hell out of this song. It teases you, acting like an instrumental, but don’t mind that, you’ll get your lyrics. I love the natural bounce of the song, slowly adding layer upon layer…guitars, atmospherics, percussion, bass…then another guitar comes noodling its way in, tossing its jangling post-punk vibes all over the place. If you want, skip to the 1 minute mark, wait about 20 seconds, and you’ll still get that emotional musical release we’re all seeking; a blast of shoegaze opens the curtains to a fairly empty stage that reveals the matter-of-fact vocal delivery set to the front of the mix while guitars dance about in the distance. Dammit. This band fucks. Look for their If Not, When? EP on October 11th.

Slacker Shoegaze From bdrmm

Hailing from Hull in England, allow me to introduce one of my favorite new upstart groups bdrmm. The band manages to create their very own unique style of slacker, sludge rock combined with just a hint of shoegaze and emo stylings. Take for example this new song “Question Mark” which is a slow burning jam which will draw you in and keep you listening for the full 6 minutes. I’ve hit play upwards of 5 times on this one today and I find myself totally entranced and sucked in. Hope you enjoy it as well.

This song appears on a new Singles Club release from UK label Sonic Cathedral which can be purchased now.

Promising Pop Number from BDRMM

Now, while BDRMM might look upon themselves as a new-age shoegaze outfit, their sound reflects more of a late 80s post-punk sound…a la New Order. The guitar work has you dreaming, yearning for something more as it seems to fade through your speakers. With the vocals, you get a touch of softness, which allows for the pop sensibility to shine though. I do appreciate how they spend the last minute of the track flexing their guitar muscles, leaving room for growth for the future. They’ve just signed to Permanent Creeps, so hopefully we’ll get more news soon.
