Show Preview: Pinkerton Hoot Night @ Thunderbird Coffee (9/9)

Date 9/9/10
Location Thunderbird Coffee
Doors 6pm
Tickets FREE!!

Giant Steps Productions has a cool event they’re calling “Pinkerton Hoot night” going on Thursday night at Thunderbird Coffee.  The idea is that 6 local bands will cover all songs from Weezer’s sophomore album Pinkerton.  A few bands will also throw in the occasional B-side and/or favorite non Pinkerton Weezer track.  The local lineup of sweet talent includes Ideal Soul Mart, The Bubbles, Guns of Navarone, Maryann and the Revival Band, With an Orange, and International Waters.  This should be a fun night and a reminder to us all that Weezer have pretty well sucked since their 1996 gem.

One of Austin’s hottest up and coming bands TV Torso have a show planned for the inside stage at Emo’s on Wednesday night.  Fellow locals International Waters will be in on the fun as well.  I’d recommend catching this band in this intimate setting before they blow up.  Latest new music from TV Torso “Slanderers’ Stew” can be found below.

Interview: Hollywood Gossip

Last week we brought you new of a new album from local popsters Hollywood Gossip, and we were fortunate enough to get an interview with the band’s Tyler Womack and Justin Crowell.  This should give you a bit more insight into the group, as well as ideas about their new album Dear as Diamonds.  At the bottom of the interview, you can catch info on the band’s CD Release this Saturday, June 19th.  Follow the jump for more.

All good things must eventually come to an end right?  Well it seems fitting that the farewell show for legendary indie Austin band Voxtrot takes place at Emo’s on Thursday night.  The ATH crew has been watching the band their for years and we will of course be in attendance to send them off in style.  Voxtrot will have opening support provided by Cry Blood Apache and International Waters.  Later guys.  You will be missed by all.

ATH A2W: International Waters

interAustin’s International Waters have been surfing around my list of bands to check out for quite some time, and it’s time we open your eyes to the band as well. Suffice it say, their list of influences such as Comet Gain, Felt and Beat Happening are enough to win me over, but the band has the songs to back it up as well. Sure, they’re steeped in that sound of ancient 80s dance suave, but you can’t help but get drawn into their songs. They currently are giving away three songs for free on their Myspace page, and they’re rumored to have a 7″ on its way. Also, you can catch them this Thursday at Elysium for Brit Pop Dance Night.
