Don’t Sleep On This New Jenny Hval Tune

Forgive me if you’ve already heard this, but Jenny Hval has just announced a new EP and shared a tune off of that forthcoming release. Maybe I’m still reeling from the new age jazz that I experienced the other night by watching King Krule’s set at Emo’s, but “Spells” has certainly struck a chord with me that I felt was somehow missing in the past with Jenny Hval’s tunes. The moment you press play on the track, you’re greeted with some sick saxophone, which continues on as a motif through the number and delightfully compliments Hval’s vocals. Completely enchanting, the number blossoms into a jazzy, trancelike blend of dream pop. Make sure you check it out below and stay tuned for more tracks from Jenny Hval on her way to the release ofThe Long Sleep EP.

Fresh Track from Racing Heart (ft. Jenny Hval)

racingheartHaving Jenny Hval involved in this tune should be enough to garner your attention…or at least a preliminary listen. But, you’ll find that you keep coming back to the track for it’s lyrical lifting from CIA covert ops manuals…and then just the song itself. Hval is a perfect counterbalance to the voice of Mathias Tjonn, or Racing Heart; she’s got an angelic pitch working against his deepened warmth. As the song unfolds, production picks up just enough to build the emotional aspects within the confines. This song will fit into his new LP, What Comes After, which is being released by Misra Records on September 16th.

Here’s New Jenny Hval

jennyhvalIf you haven’t really spent too much time with Jenny Hval, this is actually a pretty good way to get introduced to her work. The music in this single is pretty minimal, just looping around on sampled beats. While it may be simple, it allows for her voice to really do the work on this song, and boy does it ever. She seems to have so many different tones/pitches, and they constantly seem to be delivered in a varying manner…it ends up creating sort of a beautified trance for the audience. Her new record Blood Bitch will be released on September 30th by Sacred Bones.
