Why Not Post About Meeks?

mepI have absolutely no idea what any of the ideas on this song are about, nor do I really care.  It sounds like absolute gibberish, but that’s probably because I don’t speak Japanese.  Still, there’s something undeniable about this track, which came out in Japan a while ago.  Meeks had never even made my radar until the reliable Jigsaw Records decided that digging it back up and releasing it Stateside would be genius. I tend to agree.  Sometimes a song or a band grabs you, and no matter the language, there’s an inherent quality that bonds you with that.  Today, I’m all about the Meeks.

Catchy Pop from Lunchbox

lunchboxAfter a brief name change to Birds of California, Lunchobx has returned to their name sake in order to release a brand new album, said to be their best in their 15+ year career.  Their working with Jigsaw Records to release Lunchbox Loves You, which will hit the world running on August 12th.  The song moves along with a raucous bit of pop, but just beyond a minute and a half, they offer a more soothing twist on their current offering, escorted to the song’s ending by some nice horn accompaniment.  It’s a nice dosage of pop, and one that’s sure to get you excited about the band’s return.

New Music from Blooper

bloopyIt’s already been a great July, with several exciting new albums announced, and a few new hits, so it’s only fitting that Blooper should announce their new So Very Small EP. It’s the perfect blend of power-pop, with jangling guitars hiding beneath the distortion; there’s also a certain warmth to the track that endears itself to the indiepop fans.  The band doesn’t release new music too often, so you’ve got to be excited that the Seattle act has opted to get up-and-going with this new tune. You can order the EP from Jigsaw Records as we speak, but for now just revel in the track below.

Rad Re-Issue from Nar

narHonestly, I didn’t really know anything about Nar until the other day while I was kicking it with the Jigsaw Records catalog.  Scrolling through their recent releases the name of Scott Miller caught my eye.  He’s most recently been associated with the most excellent English Singles, but I’m absolutely in love with his early 90s work with this group.  There’s hints of punk rock, but there’s also a bunch of devil-may-care attitude thrown in, making it a heap of fun…not to mention some of the softer indiepop hits at the end.  I put up a few songs for you to sample from the band’s History compilation.  Check them out, and pick them up.

New Pop from Charlie Big Time

charlieIt says a lot when a band can claim the likes of Matinee and Cloudberry as their past homes, and with the move to Jigsaw, Charlie Big Time continue their foray into the annals of great indie pop labels. Next week you’ll be able to grab the Sale or Return EP from the band, and this first listen is really something special.  There’s a an airy quality to the song, which counteracts with the cascading distorted guitar.  The vocals are definitely focused on Matthew’s performance, but Beth also does a great job of adding just the right backing vocals, leaving listeners with a fine slice of pop to get you through your day.
