Perhaps they’re not a household name in the realm of indie rock, but the Kadane brothers are quietly revered in circles all around. That’s fitting, as their work in Bedhead and The New Year falls into a quiet place in the canon of indie tunes. Today they announce the return of the New Year, their first album under the project in almost ten years! There’s a slightly heavy tone to on this new single, allowing for a sensational brooding quality; these guys have always crafted the best lyrical post rock possible. You’ll have to wait for well over a minute to hear Matt enter with his voice, though that drawn out wait is always what’s made the band so special. Snow will be released on April 28th via Undertow Music; it’s currently the only thing I plan to listen to for the rest of the year.

Another one our favorite new bands, Crystal Antlers, will be playing at Beerland in Austin Sunday night. We had high praise of the bands opening set for the Kadane Brothers earlier in the summer so we are of course pumped for this one. You can read more about this show on the Beerland website.
Check out the new tune “The Company I Can Get” from The New Year’s upcoming self-titled album due out September 9th with Touch and Go Records. The New Year is also slated to play Emo’s Lounge later that month on September 20th. Don’t worry, we’ll remind you once it gets closer.

The Kadane Brothers delivered an intimate two guitar and no frills set at Emo’s Austin on Thursday night. Austin was the first show in a series of quick North American tour dates for Matt & Bubba Kadane without their backing band The New Year. The brothers showcased a few new songs off their forthcoming self titled release The New Year due out in September with their band of the same name. Each song of the set featured one of the two brothers singing lead with the other brother singing harmonies to back up. Read more
