Last Week’s Jams (6.19 – 6.23)

It was a pretty busy week around these parts, though on a personal level, the next two weeks are going to be a bit of a shit show. So, it was good to settle into that ride with some great new jams. New music from Colored Lights and Lola Tried got me super excited, so we’re kicking off last week’s jams right there. B. Gray shot some great photos of Love and Rockets, which you can scroll back into and find, thus their inclusion. RayRay ran a review of the latest from Elder Jack Ward, so you can get your soul fix in. I probably played it safe and close to home with new songs from Snooper, Swansea Sound and Film School, among a bunch of others. Unfortunately, the new Lewsberg tunes are streaming yet, so those aren’t here, but go back and listen, please!

Kedr Livanskiy Drops K-Notes; Shares Title Track Video

Hoping you realized that last night, or this morning, however you see it, Kedr Livanskiy released the brand new K-Notes EP; it’s accompanied by a self-directed video for the EP’s title track. Entrancing ambient vocals open the tune, inviting you to indulge just before the beats drop into play; it was those exact beats that really caught on for me, twisting and turning like some distant relative of traditional drum and bass work. At the 1:25 mark, the traditional vocals come in, albeit in Kedr’s preferred Russian, so for most anglophiles it’ll add another layer of otherworldliness to the tune. Looking forward to escaping the day a bit while listening to K-Notes; it’s out today via 2MR.

Kedr Livanskiy Drops New Tune with Martin Newell

Martin Newell is a big deal around my house, so when I heard that he was doing some vocals for Russian electronic artists Kedr Livanskiy my interest was already piqued. The first minute or so of the track has Kedr crafting this almost space-like atmosphere for Martin to deliver spoken word, just before the song really begins to take dramatic shape. Once the beat hits, Newell can still be heard sampled in an echoing fashion, while brooding synths and drum loops kick in from behind. This song will appear on Ariadna, Livanskiy’s new album that drops on September 8th via 2MR.
