Show Preview: Thee Oh Sees @ La Zona Rosa (9.15)

Date Saturday, September 15th
Location La Zona Rosa
Doors 8 PM
Tickets $15 @ La Zona Rosa

This is by and large the show of the week. Sure, Thee Oh Sees and Ty Segall have both made their way through town several times in the last few months, but I don’t think a single person that’s caught these two acts will tell you they wouldn’t willingly see the band over and over again.  Plus, the new record from Thee Oh Sees, Putrifiers II, is pretty killer, so hopefully we’ll get some new jams live in their set, not to mention Ty guests on it, so he’ll probably guest on stage.  And if you need another reason, check out locals Gal Pals and Fleshlights rocking things out in true Austin fashion.  Looks like I just gave you plans for Saturday night.

Show Preview: Swans @ La Zona Rosa (9.14)

Date Friday, September 14th
Location La Zona Records
Doors 800 pm
Tickets $23 from Frontgate

So you’re super bummed you couldn’t get into the sold out Twin Shadow show at Mohawk? Well, one of the next best things has to be catching Swans play over at La Zona Rosa on the same night.  The Bear, the band’s most recent album, has received incredible reviews all over the Internet, and I can promise you that it’s deserved praise, and might even be a bit of an understatement; it’s an absolutely incredible piece of work.  Opening the night will be the always popular Xiu Xiu, so you can make a great night out of your music fandom after all.

Show Pics: Blind Pilot @ La Zona Rosa (7/13)

Blind Pilot has a habit of bring along outstanding openers. Last time it was Dan Mangan. This time, we had Lost Lander.

Despite it being a Friday the 13th, +1 and I headed to La Zona Rosa after a nice dinner, joining what seemed to be many other couples on a date night. And why not? Both bands ooze with sensible songwriting conducive to holding hands and swaying a little while singing along.

Pics and more notes after the break…

Show Preview: Blind Pilot and Lost Lander @ La Zona Rosa (7/13)

Date Friday, July 13th
Location La Zona Rosa
Doors 800 pm
Tickets $17 from Frontgate

Our writer Nicole turned us onto Blind Pilot when their record, We Are the Tide, first came out.  Since then, I’ve really enjoyed their pop via country tunes, allowing them to fit into my peppier playlists.  So, it makes sense that you should be at their show, but if you’re not convinced, you should also check out opening act, Lost Lander.  The band just released their album, DRRT, and it’s a cross between the pop sensibilities of late Spoon, but with touches of the group’s own experimentation in the songwriting.  It doesn’t matter which band you like most, you need to see them both this Friday night.

Show Pics: Nada Surf @ La Zona Rosa (6/29)

Third show of the week was at La Zona Rosa. Had to run solo for this one, made it easy to get through the crowd, my stage space locked down by a Lone Star bribe to a group of people in town from all over Texas to see Nada Surf together; no photo pit, but still a three song limit.

We were treated to Austin’s The Zoltars and San Fran’s Waters as openers before Nada Surf played a twenty-three song set.

More after the jump…

Show Pics: The Rapture @ La Zona Rosa

I continue to work through the backlog of show photos. It is hard to balance time behind the shutter taking them and time behind the monitor making them extra purty for you. This installment of Rocktober show pics is from The Rapture’s stop at La Zona Rosa last week.

It was an odd show for many reasons. I’ll go into that in more detail after the break, but I don’t think anyone that is a fan of The Rapture, ie everyone in attendance, left upset. So Read More to get info on their set, to learn a little about the openers Poolside and to see plenty of pics. You know you want to. Click it.

Show Review: Friendly Fires @ La Zona Rosa

Rocktober continues!

La Zona Rosa Rosa plays host to a two night stand for ATH with Friendly Fires and The Rapture. Friendly Fires is up first bringing along Theophilus London as the opener. Having seen a condensed SxSW set of Friendly Fires and the early ACL set from Theophilus London, I had some expectations as to what we would get. So click through to see how things measured up and for a ton of pics.

It seems like forever since The Rapture have been on a proper tour and their stop into La Zona Rosa on Wednesday night seems to be highly anticipated by everyone.  Opening support for the evening is provided by DJ/producer Poolside.  This should be a good one friends.  Oh and it also seems ridiculous that we have yet to post the lastest single “How Deep is Your Love” from The Rapture, so here it is now.
