I’m gearing up to go to as many great shows as I can this week, and it all starts this evening. Austinites have the chance to see tons of stuff, but tonight, here’s where you should be: Beerland or Hotel Vegas. Beerland will host the Video album release for the group’s new record…kicking off at 9 PM. Vegas has Nick Allison kicking off his tour with our friends Lochness Mobsters, as well as Lung Letters. Seems like Wednesday is destined for rock n’ roll. Stream tracks below and see what suits your fancy…regardless, you’ll be happy at either of these spots.

We’ve been working harder this year on being sure we get more coverage going, not just internationally, but locally as well. With that in mind, I wanted to point out a couple of shows that are desperately seeking your attendance on Friday night, in case you didn’t have plans. These shows all offer a bit of different sounds, but each features some of our favorite local acts, so be sure to do your best to support our local scene. Or, you could go see Widespread Panic. Seems like an easy choice to me, but it’s your life! Here’s my suggestions on what to hit up:
Flesh Lights, Church Shoes, Sweat Lodge, Ghost Dance, John Schooley @ Hotel Vegas – Doors are at 9 PM – $6
Junior Prom, The Laughing, Migrant Kids @ Holy Mountain – Doors are at 8 PM – Cheap
Genuine Leather, Ponderosa, The Hereticks @ The Parish Underground – Doors are at 8 PM – Cheap
The Couch, Letting Up Despite Great Faults, Major Major Major @ The Blackheart – Doors are 8 PM – FREE!
Here are some jams by Letting Up to get you in the mood.
It’s been a big year for local band My Jerusalem. They just dropped their impeccable album Preachers, have done some light touring, and have been picking up some positive national press. Sunday evening is a chance to get on board and support local music with a show on the Stubbs inside stage featuring the up and coming group. It’s an even better show with ATH approved local songwriter Frank Smith providing the opening support for the evening. Should be a good one.

I know there’s tons of shows related to ACL this weekend, but maybe that’s not your thing, which is totally cool–to each his own right? I’ve got a couple of shows/events you should check out in case you’re not doing anything associated with ACL… Read more
