Our local friends Fleeting Youth Records continue to put out some really great music from a slew of promising young bands. One of those bands full of promise is L.A. based pop rock group L.A. Font. Now we already shared new song “Whisperer” just a few weeks ago and today I’m excited to be sharing with you a second new joint called “Outside”. One again, the band gives us a rock n rollin number that no one could deny is a stellar tune.
From the second I clicked on this new Iles tune, I figured it was going offer me something in the way of The Lodger; it’s got that same high energy high step guitar line, creating a stomp of the feet. Then the vocals enter carrying the tune off into a dreamier realm; it creates a rad little juxtaposition, filled with slow melodies and high energy. This is the lead single off of the album titled Apartments, which should be out this Spring via Forged Artifacts.
Los Angeles rapper Kid Ink’s most recent album, My Own Lane, has been out for about a year but on New Year’s Eve he released a music video for the best song on the album, “Hello World”. The video was shot while out on the My Own Lane Tour in various spots around the world. This is definitely one of Kid Ink’s best songs in his catalog and the most visually appealing of his music videos to date. His new album comes out February 3rd.
This new jam entitled “Punisher”, from former Austin based lady rock group Gal Pals, is an easy one to get into. At its core the song is a punk rocker with some pop elements thrown in to keep things catchy. We will forgive you for moving to L.A. and confess that we still think you are great. Stay out of the sun.
Pick up the Gal Pals debut album, Velvet Rut, on February 24th via Papercup Music.
Come on now, unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few years, you’re aware of our love affair with all things Criminal Hygiene. These guys have been pleasing our ears since we first heard their music and we try to do all we can to spread the good word about quality sounds. With all that out of the way, the boys just sent us this lovely new track called “Turpentine”. What starts as a poppy sort of rock tune yields its way to yet another raucous and guitar laden track from a rowdy rock band. It just keeps getting better and better. If you don’t know, get wise fool.
Spaceships is an L.A. based band who create some interesting power pop melodies with a hint of punk/grunge rock to give their music more of an edge. Below you’ll find new single “Good Gradez” to give you an example of what their music sounds like. It’s easy to like music and I’m sure you’ll be singing along in no time.
LA Font is a great band from Los Angeles that has received several pieces of positive praise on our website. Their tunes are easy to get into as the band effortlessly creates rock songs with a ton of pop sensibilities to keep you paying attention. This new jam called “Pretty in Love” is yet another superb effort from the band. Enjoy.
LA Font have a double album entitled The American Leagues & Diving Man due out on October 13th via Austin’s own Fleeting Youth Records.
Los Angeles based group Tennis System are returning in 2014 with some new material and below you can find their latest single “Memories & Broken Dreams”. It’s a little bit of taistey, atmospheric pop music that’s sure to be a treat for your ears. Enjoy and let us know your thoughts.
You can pick up their latest LP entitled Technicolor Blind on October 21st via PaperCup Music.
You’ve got to start off Monday’s rather gently, especially after all the music fans in Austin endured an incredible week of shows. So , in lieu of that concept, I bring you this tune from Easy, a rad little act from LA. They craft this careful pop music that rises and falls, often with orchestral touches and changes in rhythm throughout the track. Personally, I dig how they speed things down, then revert back to a gentler pace; it’s a good little effect, and one that allows for the band’s songwriting to be put in full display. Expect to hear more from these guys going forwards.
If it needs to be said again, I’m a huge fan of L.A. based rockers Criminal Hygiene and their noisey, gritty, punk rock twanged sound. I believe my fandom began around this time last year when I was jamming the band’s debut, self-titled LP. Then SXSW came, and the band secured my allegiance with their high energy and raucous live show. So with all of that out of the way, the point of the post is to share with you this incredible new track by the band called “Withdrawn”. I’m hearing a bit of a more polished and focused sound from the band here, but of course they haven’t lost their punk edge. Personally, I think this is a tune that shows us a band who can really make something of themselves in the future. I’m in.
