From The Closet: At The Drive-In

at-the-drive-inNow I promise not to make this another one of those “man I wish Mars Volta would break-up so At the Drive-In would get back together” type of posts.  I like Mars Volta, I really do.  Well at least I used to a few years ago when they still put out listenable material… I’m giving you “Invalid Litter Dept.” from the incomparable 2000 album Relationship of Command because it’s always been one of my ATDI favorites since I first heard the album.  It also marks the bands last effort together before all shit broke loose and most everyone went their separate ways.  Enjoy it and pick up this album if you’re the last fool on the planet who doesn’t own it.

The ACL Bottom 5

Yeah we’re going there ACL. For all the numerous good things that happen during our little festival, there are always a few things people tend to complain about (whiners). We’re keeping this list just a bit short because I think most agree that the positives of the weekend always outweigh the negatives. Things not included on this list are complaints we have every year like: $8 Lonestars, $6 hamburgers that taste like dirt, long bathroom lines, and the like. Those are things we all hate but won’t be changing anytime soon. No, with this list, we hope the good people at C3 hear our cries and makes this festival the one everybody talks about.  So without further ado….. The Austin Town Hall Top 5 worst moments at ACL after the jump.

Town Hall ACL Battles: Manu vs. Mars

Town Hall ACL  Battles is another feature we will be bringing you everyday leading up to the festival this weekend. The idea is fairly simple: two bands, same time slot, same day, who ya gonna pick? Feel free to leave comments on why you should or shouldn’t see each band represented in our “battles”. Now obviously we can’t hit every single conflict over 5 days so don’t be offended if we miss something. These are “the big ones”. Our first battle pits Manu Chao vs. Mars Volta both headlining around 8:30 on Friday. The schedule does have Mars Volta ending at 9:30 and Manu ending at 10 but were talking about opposite ends of the park (AMD and AT&T stages). It might take you 30 minutes just to get from one side to the other this late in the day. So, Sunday at 8:30, where ya gonna be? Getting your face melted by the prog-rock of Mars Volta? Or jammin’ to the world sounds of Manu Chao? If you need a little assistance, we have the most recent singles of both bands. Ding Ding.

Tunes from One Day As a Lion

Maybe this is nostalgia, or maybe I’m sincerely interested – I’ll figure that out later. Zach de la Rocha’s new group, One Day As a Lion has just released a song in hopes of garnering interest before their debut album comes out next Tuesday, July 22nd, on Anti Records. Now, if Zach de la Rocha doesn’t get your attention, then maybe drummer Jon Theodore will. That’s right; he’s the drummer from the original Mars Volta line-up, you know, back when they blew you away instead of jamming you to sleep!  That guy can bang the drums.

Unfortunately, the only way you can listen to the track is if you visit this social networking site
