Friday night, there’s only one place you really really need to be: Hotel Vegas. There’s a phenomenal show at Hotel Vegas, featuring several of the ATH Records act who are about to hit the road, namely Mean Jolene and Pollen RX. They’ll be joined by other powerhouse acts like Big Bill, Go Fever and Leather Girls (who have a rad new LP coming soon). Bands need money to hit the road, so come get yourself a cool t-shirt or an LP, then stay for the ridiculously solid line up of Austin acts. Stream some releases from the bands that I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of with ATH Records.
The jams were copious as were the tender moments. The showcase highlighted the talent in Austin with bands watching bands that shuffled up to be other bands. We had international celebrities in attendance, as well as every familiar face possible. I took photos, some with an Instax. We ate sausage wraps and drank beaverages. It was perfect air for a whisky.
Click through and be impressed.
Half of the band, Jolie and Adam, were still on a Cubs related high. What better way to celebrate a historic World Series win than by releasing a record? Will and Ben may or may not have been hungover. The band had too many friends and too much fun. Tiger tall boys. Tater tots. Satin jackets. Flying earrings.
Joining in on the festivities were Talkies, The Bond Twins, HeyBaby and Summer Salt, so pics after the break. Sorry to Summer Salt for hitting the wall after a long day.
Impose Magazine has a weekly special section where they pick their favorite bits of news each week…and aside from us, it’s one of the few places left for “discovery.” And, lucky for us, they chose to premiere a track from our ATH Records band, Mean Jolene. You can read the entirety of what they said HERE; but I also wanted to include the jam, so you have a choice to enjoy it as many times as possible. The band drop their debut album, Salty, on November 4th, with a release show that same week over at Cheer Up Charlies. You can grab a copy HERE, and below, press play as many times as you want!
Two things I love on a Monday night: friends and great music. Luckily for me, and for you, I hope, The Sidewinder will have both on Monday night. Tijuana Panthers, one of my favorite acts are blowing into town tonight, fresh off a continued run of great releases with their latest, Poster. But, also, our own ATH Records act Mean Jolene will be bringing in a blast of summery pop, which you should stop in and preview before you pick up their debut Salty in November. Plus, all four members of said band are really nice, and you should make friends with them. If you do, you’ll get friends and great music, all for a cheap price when doors open at 9 PM. Sample great tunes below:
Nathan summed it up in a book face post. He, with Mike’s help, runs a label that is proud of the content, proud of the people, happy to be helping bands in Austin have merch to sell and fund the next project. It is a ton of work; pursuing, promoting, logistics and coordination. I am happy to be associated with ATH records.
Hit the read more and view the greatness of Pollen Rx, Mean Jolene, Rose Selavy, Plantation Band, Young Girls, Basketball Shorts, Summer Salt and Shivery Shakes (in drag).
Saturday night folks! There’s only one place you should be come the end of the night (after you attend the PRIDE parade, of course): Barracuda for our Back to School Bash. Our label is about to celebrate it’s 10th official release with Mean Jolene…but ATH is also a home to teachers, so we wanted to celebrate back to school! What better way than to bring out the bands on our label and throw a big party with our friends from 101x Homegrown, who’ve graciously supported the label since its inception. You’ll have 8 bands, 2 stages, so please come celebrate with us. The night will include sets from Pollen Rx, Mean Jolene, Rose Selavy, Plantation Band, Young Girls, Basketball Shorts, Summer Salt and Shivery Shakes. If you’re not in town, be sure to check out our little stable of great Austin acts HERE. And stream the latest label hit from MJ below.
Doors are at 9 PM and it’s a measly $5. I’ll be on hand to sell you stuff.
I get it. Being a musician is hard, owning a venue is hard. But that’s anywhere in the world, even in Austin. But, while we have struggles here in town, we also have an e abundance of incredible acts popping up left and right. Flavorsound has organized a Class of 2016 Tape Compilation of the new bands that burst forth this year…including some of the acts on ATH Records like Plantation Band and Mean Jolene. It’s surely not an end all – be all list, but there’s great finds on the tape. So to celebrate, they’re throwing a release show at Barracuda tomorrow night featuring many of the acts…Planet Manhood, Lola Tried, Oozer, Mean Jolene, Vampyre and Sherman’s March. Stop by and check out some of the new sounds coming out of Austin. And if you live abroad, check out the Tape HERE or stream below.
In case you haven’t noticed, we’ve got our own little label here at ATH, and we’re really stoked to be working with Mean Jolene for their debut album, Salty. Yesterday, Gold Flake Paint, a reputable place for hits, ran the album’s first single, “Bump the Rump.” It’s perfect timing, as this is a glorified summer hit; you’ll want to turn it up loud, whether you’re at your next pool party or speeding down the highway. If you want to sample the band’s sound live, they’ll be playing at the Flavorsound Class of 2016 Party at Barracuda on Friday…and also appearing at our ATH Records/101X Back to School Bash on August 27th. Stream the song, and preorder the LP from us HERE.
First, this show is all about welcoming back A. Sinclair after their tour; it’s always good to show up and say hi to old friends, buy them a beer before they crash into that post-tour darkened den of sleep for a few weeks. Plus, if you come out early, like a music fan, you can catch Mean Jolene, who will be releasing their debut LP later this year via ATH Records (that’s us!). But, one thing people might be sleeping on in the presence of Tedo Stone of Atlanta, who garnered a lot of great press from the like heavy hitters with their album Marshes last year. Oh, and secretly hiding their all along is Star Parks, who’ve released one of my favorite LPs in Austin this year. It’s going to be cheap, and its going to be fun, and the weather will be cool enough to actually enjoy the great Hotel Vegas patio. See you tonight.
