Body/Negative Share Sleepy Video

There’s perhaps nothing that rings more true this week than a track titled “Sleepy.” Whether you’re on vacation and just relaxing, or you’ve indulged too much and find yourself in a food-induced coma, Body/Negative have crafted this striking soundtrack to your day or week. It’s a seemingly simple track, maneuvering with very light keys and atmospheric fuzz as the vocals carry angelic memories associated with the songwriters (both Midwife and B/N have dedicated this tune to their deceased parents). Perhaps a solemn theme runs through it, but in this week, it allows us to turn our thoughts towards those we can be thankful for, be that parents or partners or pets. This track appears on the new LP, Everett, out December 8th via Track Number Records.

Tucker Theodore Shares Hollow ft. Midwife

Being snowed up in your house is a weird feeling; you’re just putting music on loops and staring out the window, or playing, but right now, I’m mostly staring. With that, music like Tucker Theodore‘s has a tendency to get stuck in your head; it has this circular nature, almost creating a pattern to your listening, even where no pattern exists. There are some slow moments of build in here too, letting the noise elements run through your veins, sending little nervous shivers at each little twist and turn. This track appears on Lewiston by the Sea, the new LP via Antiquated Future, out today!

Allison Lorenzen Shares Vale (ft. Midwife)

You might be familiar with Allison Lorenzen‘s work as a member of School Dance, but our focus here is on her incredible single under her own name for her solo work. Honestly, I just want this song to play throughout the rest of the day; it perfectly captures the balance between light and dark that makes this brand of pop so perfect. Opening with this almost gothic guitar chord, bringing in this shadow to start us off, you’re set up perfectly, to enter the caverns of Lorenzen’s creation. At first Allison’s voice, while perfectly sharp, still carries an almost heavy tone to it, matching the musical element. But, as that moves along, and we enter the chorus, the vocals evolve into something stronger, almost angelic in nature; it’s absolutely captivating. Just press play and don’t forget to thank me later!

Darkened Pop from Midwife

Odds are that you had Belgium making the World Cup final, so you’re probably a little bummed out today. Me too. But, in hopes to remedy that we’ve got this track from Midwife to calm your ills, and perhaps transport you to a better place. The entirety of this tune works over a solemn electronic note, accompanied by wave after wave of washed atmospherics. Bubbling beneath it all, like whispers shared between lovers are the lyrics, coated in various effects that maximize the emotive pull of the tune. This number will appear on the group’s new Prayer Hands EP, out at the end of July via Antiquated Future.
