One of our favorite local acts Sad Accordions have just released a split EP with Monahans, each offering up two songs for the endeavor. It’s a limited release being put out by new label Mt. Inadale Records, so we’re definitely happy to see a new label spring up with Austin bands in mind. The Accordions track definitely continues to show how the band has improved upon their sound, growing into one of the most complete groups in town. We hope you dig this track, and if you do, scramble to get yourself one of the 500 copies of the limited pressing floating around!

The Parish played host to Film School’s fifth stop on their tour in support of the album Fission. Austin’s TV Torso and Monahans were brought in to open. I was looking forward to this line up as a good match to the excellent sound and lighting at this venue. Follow the jump for more and fancy photos.
It’s a busy weekend in Austin and you can start that weekend early with a show at The Parish on Thursday night with recent ATH favorite Film School. Making the evening more enticing to you fans, local bands TV Torso and Monahans will both be on stage with the out of towners. Should be a night filled with good music.

We’re happy to announce today a little party we’re helping put on next weekend at the up and coming music venue Ghost Room. This little shindig is hosted by Above the Radar PR and Do512 along with support from yours truly and End of an Ear Records. The lineup features 3 solid local bands going by the names of Monahans, Sad Accordions and Frank Smith. To make the event even that much more special, we will all be there to celebrate the birth year of our dear friend Michael over at Sonic Itch. Word on the street has it that he is old as dirt so expect him to turn to dust at the stroke of midnight. Should be good times had by all. We’ll make sure to plug this party again a few days before the January 16th date next week. Show time? 9pm ladies.

Jason Molina brings his band, Magnolia Electric Co to the Mohawk this Saturday night in just one of the many shows about town. Not only do you get to see his band for the measly price of $8 (or $10 at the door), but you also get to see the likes of Monahans, and our personal favorites The Donkeys. It might be a mellow affair, but it will definitely be one you’ll enjoy thoroughly as you celebrate the end of the week. Here is an old MEC tune to get you in the mood.
Centro-matic and Will Johnson get all kinds of coverage on this site so we will of course be alerting you every time the Denton, TX band makes it through town. Friday evening Will and the boys will be making a stop at the Parish downtown along with Monahans and locals Future Cloud and Radar. The Parish should be an ideal venue to see such an underrated and talented band. Doors are at 8pm/music at 9. Tickets can be bought online now for $14.
