Let’s Welcome Back Yonatan Gat

jonatanOkay, so Yonatan Gat hasn’t left us just yet, but it appears his old project Monotonix is dead and gone; they’ll be sorely missed, especially considering their riotous live shows, so we’ve got to look to Yonatan to pick up where the band left off.  This instrumental tune should give you a good view at what he’s been working on, providing listeners with strong guitar play and what seems like a perceived restraint; I know that Gat will unleash this song as entirely different beast live.  Those of you interested in his work will be excited to know he’s working on a pretty extensive tour of the States, including a date here in Austin at Hotel Vegas on January 31st…along with a return in March for SXSW. Look for his new album, Director, on March 3rd via Joyful Noise Recordings.

Yonatan Gat of Monotonix Readies EP

yonatanIt’s fair to say that the world had grown accustomed to the work of Monotonix, so Yonatan Gat decided to take a step out for a moment.  In doing so, the guitarist for the band has created his own work that channels the expansive sound of Brazilian acts like Os Mutantes, yet still maintains that hard hitting energy we are used to from Gat.  The two tracks we’ve heard have little to no lyrics, so perhaps it sounds like a bit of a jam, but at least it’s a jam we can fully support.  His Iberian Passage EP will be out on May 27 via Joyful Noise.

Show Preview: Monotonix @ Mohawk (1/29)

Date 1/29/11
Location Mohawk
Doors 8pm
Tickets $10 @ Frontgate

Those crazy bastards known as Monotonix from Israel are making a stop into Mohawk on Saturday night.  Joining the punk rockers and opening the show up are our local favorites The Strange Boys.  I’d recommend the Boys finish and get out of the way so as to not get a butt cheek in the face.  I’m sure this show will be just as nuts as all their other ones.
