…with Moving Panoramas and Emme.
I don’t hide my love for Night Drive. They are friends and good people. They are fans of photographers here in Austin and the photographers are fans of theirs. +1 and I were long overdue for a date night/dance party.
Agenda: Empire for Emme, Moving Panoramas and Night Drive. Click through for a few thoughts from the evening along with a gallery ripe of fam.
It’s a jam packed weekend in our fair city, with tons of shows waiting for you to stop in and enjoy yourself. There’s tons of heavy-hitters, as well as some local acts worthy of an evening out. Look ahead to what you’re options are! Sample some songs and videos below too. Read more
Yesterday, you got to hear RayRay’s thoughts on the festival, with his Friday highlights. Today, you’ll get me talking about my Saturday highlights, along with a few thoughts on the festival as a whole. It’s interesting to look back on it with the perspective of the last few days occurrences, so if it seems a touch idealistic…so be it.
Ladies and gentlemen, knights and knaves, sires and maidens– the time is drawing near for the inaugural Sound on Sound Festival and we here at ATH could not be more excited. Not only have the SOS folks put together a stacked bill filled with big time acts from all over the indie world, but they’ve also made sure to stick to their Austin roots by snagging some of the great local acts from around town. Sure, maybe you’ve seen their name on a poster for a show, but now is the time to make sure you show up for their set and give them some love. Read on for 5 local bands that you shouldn’t miss this weekend.
*Don’t forget about Late Knights, which is another excellent opportunity to catch some great bands– local and international.
It was a busy weekend. There was a race going on out at COTA, there was house prep for the long run into downtown known as SxSW, a friend’s birthday and this little show that friends put together where several of my favorite local bands were covering Cure songs to benefit The Teenage Cancer Trust. Among participants, we get Bali Yaaah, Modern Medicine, Knifight with half of Night Drive, Moving Panoramas and many more…

The weekend is filled with Holiday parties and various shows celebrating such a time, but Saturday night is where you’ll find your money best spent; there are two incredible shows that are must sees in my eyes. On one hand, you’ve got the 12XU XXXMas Revue at Beerland, featuring Sweet Talk, OBN IIIs, Flesh Lights, Xetas and more; it’s important to note that all those bands have at some point been at the top in our year end lists. While that’s a rock laden show, a block away you can indulge your pop fandom by hitting up Moving Panoramas, Ramesh and Young Girls over at Barracuda. A few of these acts are on our label (with a new Young Girls LP on its way), so you know we’ll be there…though considering the line-up, I’m looking to bounce back and forth all night long.
Nathan and I were commenting on the plethora of shows going down this weekend, so I figured it’d be nice to lay it all out night by night for you so you know where you need to be to hear the best tunes. I’ve got all your options broken up by days and if you play your cards right, it could be a weekend filled to the brim with great local and visiting acts. See for yourself after the jump and prep with some tunes… a few more hours and it’s the weekend!

Our scene is pretty damn good, so it doesn’t really surprise me that locals Moving Panoramas have got a great single and album on the horizon to give to you. If you haven’t heard or seen this three piece around town somehow, you need to change that immediately and have a listen to “One,” below. When you hit play, you’ll be charmed by their effortless dream gaze with noticeable hints of Best Coast and Dum Dum Girls. One is also the name of the upcoming album from these ladies, which you can look forward to in October of this year on Modern Outsider. So take a listen to the hazily hooky track below and stay alert for upcoming tour dates around town from Moving Panoramas; you don’t want to miss out on this.
There’s not a lot in the way of traveling acts coming through town, but that doesn’t mean you won’t have a chance to get out and support tons of local artists, and even celebrate some venues. No need to wax poetic here, just check out some great gigs. Read more
