Hopefully you Austinites remember that we just recently released the wonderful debut LP by Feverbones, Dream Talk. Well, tonight you’re likely to hear a set including several of those tracks, as the band take the stage with their friends (and ours), Good Field. But, rest assured, they aren’t the only bands, with Linen Closet and My Golden Calf also gracing the stage tonight. A bunch of really talented local acts ready all together to help ease your Hump Day ills? You betcha! See ya’ll there! Doors are at 9 PM!
My Golden Calf is a four piece from our very own city, which formed, as most bands do, after previous acts dissipated and dissolved. Lead guitarist and vocalist, Dabney Dwelle (Quien es Boom) enlisted the help of three friends to create the group and their sound is something along the lines of indie rock with a hint of alt-country/folk spliced into the mix via the rough and twangy vocals. As youll hear from the single below, Either, the band does a good job of blending the two aforementioned genres seamlessly. The track is one that hinges on the constant motion and simmering patterns of instrumentationespecially the ceaseless presence of some kind of piano/keyboard that makes the sound full and layered. And then theres the raspy vocals of Dwelle, which push the song beyond indie rock and into the folk genre. Dont forget to keep your listening ears perked for the release of their debut full length, Perfume Brute, which is due out at the end of February; should be a good one.

It’s the holiday season so quality shows can be hard to come by, but a headlining show at the Mohawk by local favorite Ola Podrida is an exception to this rule. Rumor has it that Dave and crew are playing some new tunes from an album they just finished so fans of the band should definitely check this one out. Opening support is provided by My Golden Calf and A.D. Blood.[audio:http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/WV67_YFB.mp3]
