More New Stuff from Swim Team

Every one should be listening to Swim Team, especially as the group have a new LP on the way in less than a month. We’ve previously covered “Are You Into Me,” but now the band have leaked two new tracks from their forthcoming Home Time. The first of these, “Everyday Things” has this bubbling post-punk-ishness, though it’s spun around the band’s slight connections to indiepop…you know, harmonies and pop sensibility. “New Year” is a little bit different, offering up an almost dreamy beach vibe to it; there exists this softness that sucks you under like strong tides in the ocean…though there’s some twinkling guitar lines too that definitely rule. I’m pretty stoked on this band at the moment; you should be too; they drop Home Time July 12th via Hysterical Records.

Don’t Sleep On Mk.gee

I’m a few days late to the party on this one, but that doesn’t mean you should be like me and miss this lovely track from Mk.gee. It’s a pretty low-key one, but totally fits the gentle vibe that seems to be hitting the spot for me with the fall. Mk.gee is the moniker for Michael Gordon, who is making delicate tunes that sound like they’re coming to you from the bottom of a lagoon. Echoey instrumentation and vocals kind of waft your way in waves on “New Year,” as he ruminates on the passing of time and that hollow feeling that comes with ringing in another year. This track is from Mk.gee’s new EP, which will be out this Friday, 11/16.

 

Soaring Beauty from Over Sands

over-sands-press-photo-2I just wanted something that felt like drifting, something that felt like floating away. Luckily, this Over Sands track sort of carried itself into my inbox, bringing with a huge sound and this twinkling bit of beauty. It’s the sort of tune that drowns out the world around you, clearing your thoughts away…just sink into the track. Be it the electric wash or the airy vocals bursting through your speakers, you’re going to give in to this number. You’ll be able to hear this one on the project’s debut EP, which comes out late November courtesty of B3SCI.

Bedhead Cover The Stranglers Golden Brown

bedhedI probably should have written about the Bedhead retrospective box set that includes tons of B-Sides and rarities, like this Stranglers cover below.  Bedhead were one of those group’s that I adored, and still listen to from time to time (even going into their New Year era tunes too), though I was never fortunate enough to catch the group live.  They always had this intricate touch to their songwriting; it reminded me of the complexity of American Football, but with more of an intimate appeal, as opposed to the art-school approach I felt AF took.  This cover is a perfect example of what the band accomplished, and I hope everyone really goes back and revisits the group.  Bedhead: 1992-1998 will be released on November 11th via Numero Group, so you’ll need to save some funds to pick up the box set!
