We’ve always made a point to see Bill Callahan when he comes to Austin and we always enjoy the performance he puts on. If you’ve yet to catch one of these shows, you can sort of recreate the live experience with Tiny Desk Concert Mr. Callahan just recorded for NPR. It’s a 3 song set and really highlights the unique style this guy is coming with. Check it out now.

Due to my dancing about town in an attempt to catch everything possible, I was unable to catch Dirty Projectors set at the Parish during SXSW, but thanks to NPR, you can now hear the set in its entirety by visiting their web site. A whole slew of websites & record companies are giving away some free MP3s from artist participating in SXSW. NPR has one featuring 16 tracks from artists involved in some of their events during the week. Famous UK label 4AD also has a sampler of artists playing their showcase available for download after you give them an email addy. And of course Amazon won’t be outdone with a sampler of artists playing the IODA opening day bash party. Are you ready for the party?
Those of you who love a good dance mash up will surely find solace knowing that Dan Deacon has a new album coming out March 24th on Carpark Records. Last week we told you about NPR streaming the new M. Ward album Hold Time, but that doesn’t do much for your ipod lovers. Today we’re offering up an MP3 of a song from the new album called “Never Had Nobody Like You” which features backing vocals from the other half of She & Him, Zooey Deschanel. I wonder why the first single would be one of the few tracks featuring the future Mrs. Gibbard? If you’re growing impatient for the new Andrew Bird album, the nice folks over at NPR are streaming the entire thing right now. The new album is entitled Noble Beast and won’t be out in physical form until January 20th. Here’s whistle heavy first single from the new album “Oh No”. Don’t forget that Mr. Bird is also coming through Austin on the 12th of February at the Paramount.
