Forty years after Neil Young’s legendary performance at the Canterbery House in Ann Arbor, Reprise Records is finally giving us fans the chance to buy this much anticipated live recording. Paul McCartney’s latest project, The Firemen, have a new album out called Electric Arguments and you can stream the whole thing now on the NPR website. The Firemen is an electronic duo started in 1993 by McCartney and Killing Joke founding member, Youth (Martin Glover). This new album is the first time the duo has utilized vocals and apparently has a more “traditional” sound. Is the new project worth our time?
Austin’s own, Shearwater, recently made an appearance on the NPR Tiny Desk Concert series. The intimate in house set features 4 songs played with nothing but acoustic instruments and some really random/awesome home made instruments by the band’s drummer Thor Harris. Watch the whole thing now. In other Sheartwater news, the band has a new digital EP entitled Snow Leopard EP that you can download from the Matador Records website. The NPR music website has a live set by A Place to Bury Strangers you can listen to from the CMJ Festival this weekend. The live recording is provided by KEXP and you can download the 4 song set now. The guys at KEXP say it was the loudest set of the festival.

If you’ve never been blessed enough to see Of Montreal live, you finally have the chance thanks to NPR. The folks at NPR will be streaming an entire Of Montreal show taking place in Washington D.C. this evening. Show stream time is set for 10 pm E.T. (that’s 9pm Texas time). Calexico recently did a short live set for the NPR Sound Check website. As always, the band blows you away with the strength of their stripped down live songs. Everyone’s favorite indie princess Jenny Lewis, has a new song called “Acid Tongue” streaming on the NPR website. The song will appear on an album of the same name due out on Sep. 23rd of this year. The album is said to feature a wide array of talented folks like Zooey Deschanel, Elvis Costello, & Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes just to name a few. Enjoy.
If you read our recent review of Dr. Dog’s newest album Fate, you know that we are big fans of this Philly-based band (we gave the album 4 1/2 stars). Well, we recently discovered a fantastic live set produced by Steve Lillywhite for NPR. It features 4 songs – “The Ark”, “Talk”, “The Old Days”, and “Hang Out”. Another one of our favorite artists, Los Campesinos!, recently did an in studio performance for the World Cafe over on the NPR website. The set features four pop jams you can download from the band’s early 2008 release Hold on Now, Youngster which is sure to slide into a top albums of the year post.
