Snowy Band Announce Audio Commentary

Snowy Band is the recording project of Liam Halliwell, who you might recognize as one of the core members of the Ocean Party; he’s also played on a ton of your favorite Melbourne band’s records too…he’s all over the place. Today, news comes across the great pond of a new album titled Audio Commentary, which will be released at the end of March via Osborne Again. Our first listen is this really solemn ballad, gentle in its presentation, with each note carefully presented so Liam can allow his voice to blanket them in a calming warmth. The chorus builds in a special moment, with Halliwell’s voice raised up with support of his backing band, which includes ATH fave Emma Russack. A special moment awaits you if you press play below.

Emma Russack and Lachlan Denton Share Catch

Every new single that comes from Emma Russack & Lachlan Denton just raises the anticipation for their new LP, Take the Reigns. At this point, Lach’s voice should be super familiar to fans of our site, or even folks who’ve been following along the last few years. He’s got one of the most gentle voices in Australia, and one that has this immediate warmth and intimacy. That talent alone would make his tunes sparkle in the pop ears, but Emma is the perfect foil; she enters the scene in just the right places, rounding out sentiment with a bit of harmonizing. I particularly love the last 20 seconds or so where she takes off on her own; it’s a touching moment, and another gem. The LP will be out on October 18th via Bobo Integral and Osborne Again.

Brand New Single from Lachlan Denton and Emma Russack

Please. Put down everything you’re doing. Be free for the next 3 minutes. This brand new track from the songwriting team of Lachlan Denton (Ocean Party) and Emma Russack is possibly the greatest pop song you’ll here today. Lach opens the track with a muted guitar strum worked over strong piano lines and minimal percussion, allowing his voice to really drive the tune forward. If you’re a doubter, wait until the 1:18 mark where the song gains Emma’s voice, a stronger percussive element and a powerful pop hook that finishes the song off in an emphatic fashion. The new record, Take the Reigns, will be out on October 18th via Bobo Integral and Osborne Again.

Cool Sounds Share Hula Hoop

Not too long ago we shared a tune from the forthcoming Cool Sounds LP, More to Enjoy, and the band have another rad tune for you to enjoy. There’s something about this number that seems so timeless, so pure in its pop enthusiasm that I’m sure you’ll love it. For me, it transported me back to the log cabin I lived at in Yellowstone, sitting on the porch drinking a beer with my stereo lightly playing from inside as I stared into the great wilderness. That said, I went back and listen again as I always do, and here I am enjoying this sort of modern funk with a classic rock tinge, bobbing my head thinking of my dad but living in every moment of the present. The album drops on September 20th via Osborne Again/Hotel Motel/Meritorio.

Emma Russack and Lachlan Denton Share New Single

Two of my favorite voices from Australia, Emma Russack and Lachlan Denton, are teaming up again to release their 3rd album working together; they’ve both released wonderful solo records this year as well. In this video, the duo seem to be having a dinner party, built around the making of pasta with a bunch of pals. Emma takes the reins on the vocal duties for this number, with slight backing vocals provided during the chorus. The subject matter here involves self-love, and the inevitable drive to get out of bed and seek it out. Their new album is titled Take the Reigns, and it will be released by Osborne Again/Bobo Integral on October 18th.

Cool Sounds Have More to Enjoy

It hasn’t taken long for Cool Sounds to follow up their excellent Cactus Country with another new LP, More to Enjoy. Today, we’re super glad to share the title track from the new LP, offering up this textural blend between psychedelia and tropicalia; it’s an intoxicating mixture of pop sensation you won’t want to miss. The band almost opens up with this classic rock vibe, harkening back to a late 60s groove, but then begin to weird it up as they build in a nice rhythmic underbelly. You’ll find the vocals have this natural wistfulness, they’re bright and melodic, but also seem to be out there searching…though ultimately finding there’s “nowhere to go.” The new LP will be out this Fall via Osborne Again and Meritorio Records.

Lachlan Denton Shares New Tune

Lachlan Denton and his brother Zac were part of my favorite Aussie outfit, The Ocean Party, with each working on their own side-projects along the way. But, as many of you know, Zac passed away suddenly last year, leaving a lasting impression on all of us. Now, with a new tune from Lachlan Denton & Studio Magic, we hear Lachlan coming to grips with the impression Zac left on his own life. It’s creates a strange contradiction whilst listening: the song is beautiful and yet the lyrical content is heartbreaking…still, you’re captivated by both aspects, perhaps the lasting mark that will remain with listeners as they absorb A Brother, the new LP out next week via Bobo Integral/Osborne Again.

Cool Sounds Return with Around and Down

Less than a year after the release of the excellent Cactus Country LP, Aussie outfit Cool Sounds return with a brand new single and the promise of a new LP later this year. For now, let’s sit back and let the vibes of this tune really seep deep into our pores, soothing the soul. In the opening, there’s a slight keyboard pulse, but shortly, guitars chime in, circling overhead like a pop vulture awaiting its next victim. I think the vocals change things slightly, almost taking on a sunny disposition as they float through the air; it sort of reminds me of Woods a few albums ago. Another hypnotic piece of pop music from a group with endless talent; we’ll keep you posted on more news of that new records.

Emma Russack Returns with Be Real

I love starting off Mondays with tunes you that really get you excited to jump into the week, which is almost always the case when I get new Emma Russack tunes. There are two really incredible things that I love about this track; I love the storytelling aspect of Emma’s lyrics and I love the way the song seemingly builds with little to no release. Her first-person approach has this matter-of-fact manner that really drives home the story. Musically, each little bit seems to continuously rise in volume…first its guitar and voice, then emphatic drums, slowly, slowly building. It’d be easy to unleash anywhere in that process, but she holds back, almost toying with the listener, inevitably sucking you into the track. Winter Blues will be released on July 5th by Osborne Again!

Lachlan Denton Shares This Christmas

When Lachlan Denton lost his brother Zac (of Ocean Party fame) unexpectedly last year, he was overtaken by emotion; he did what he and his brother had been doing for a long long time…he penned some tunes to try and write his emotions out into the world. The first tune we’ve heard from the LP is “This Christmas,” which has me pretty damn near close to tears. In the lyrics you’ve got a brother promising to keep his brother’s memory alive, though that promise comes with the knowledge that those memories will also bring sadness. Musically, there’s this wonderfully gleaming guitar line; it twinkles and sparkles in the front of the mix, much like Zac when he was fronting OP. A Brother will be out on July 19th via Osborne Again/Spunk/Bobo Integral.
