Never a Bad Time for Pity Sex

psThe title of this post is in reference to the band, weirdoes. While Pity Sexhas been on our radar for some time, they seem to be making quite a name for themselves, especially now that they’re working with Run For Cover Records. I think the intensity of the music falls in line with a lot of the modern guitar pop, while the soft quality of the vocals portrays the band’s different dynamic, at least in contrast to many of their peers. Their new effort White Hot Moon is being released by the label on April 29th, so stream the song below to see if it’s up your alley.

Guitar Pop from Pity Sex

pityI have a sneaking suspicion that this tune will get a lot of play on my list for the next few weeks.  It’s the perfect sort of guitar pop, using distorted guitars to  wrap the band’s pop sensibility in a gentle blanket of noise.  There’s even a nice balance between male and female counterparts in Pity Sex.  This song features on the group’s new split 7″ which they will be sharing with Adventures; it’s slated for a October 7th release via Run for Cover Records.  It’s a nice jam to wrap up your Friday listening.

Show Preview: Pity Sex and Solids @ Holy Mountain (Tonight)

holyRarely do you get to start off your week with such a bad ass show, but I’m really excited for tonight’s gig over at Holy Mountain.  You’ve got a couple of solid openers in Costumes and Gang Sign, but there’s also one of the most overlooked bands of the year jamming strong, Solids.  Their album Blame Confusion is this boisterous bombast, and I highly encourage you to get out now and get yourself a copy of it. Then the night gets closed out by Michigan’s Pity Sex, who offer up a shoe gaze-y version of rock n’ roll; they’ve got the ability to go loud, or pull back with a little bit more melody. This is the perfect way to kick-start your week, and lose a little hearing.

AMENDMENT: Pity Sex have had to cancel their slot due to traveling issues. So now Solids will headline!
