I looked at the Austin schedule for Tuesday night, and there’s no where you need to be more than at Mohawk to catch Bent Shapes. They’re touring on the back of their recent release Wolves of Want (Slumberland Records), which has gotten praise from all the Internet heavies. They’ve got this blend of pop-rock that’s so infectious you can’t find a way to turn it off. Plus, the show’s relatively early, so you can still make it home in time to catch some zzz’s. Joining the band will be local up-and-comers, Ponyboy and the Horsegirls and perennial indiepoppers, Rose Selavy.
Doors to the show are at 8 PM, and your presence is required.

Living in Austin, there’s tons of stuff to cover, and we’re really trying to make sure we get to as much of it as we can. Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of my friends bands book shows with Ponyboy & the Horsegirls, so I had to go check out their tunes. Surprisingly, they’ve got a few tracks to offer you, and they’re all pretty great…just to give you a heads up. Their most recent tracks have a softer feeling, like the gentle Winter we’ve embraced this year. Still, they also have a more rambunctious power-pop gem called “Ides of May,” which I’m quite fond of today. So, I’ve included both below to entice you to follow your heart (and ears) and get behind the ATX group.

A few weeks back, I watched something like 75 bands play in various spots across Austin, but only a few of the newer acts stuck; Dreamboat was one such band. They play this evening, bringing their energetic pop; it’s all hooks and all fun all the time. Plus, they’ll be joined by AMA, another one of my favorite local acts from Free Week. The show begins at 10 PM over at Sahara Lounge, also including Batty Jr/Ponyboy and the Horsegirls. Stream the great Strong Legs EP from Dreamboat below…memorize the songs so you can sing along at the top of your lungs.
