Fresh Track from Hello Paris

I still can’t find too much information on Hello Paris, though I’m excited to see the project working with Beko, a label I respect greatly. The two new tunes on this EP are pretty great, with one offering this dark post-punk vibe and the other taking more of a progressive pop perspective that dances around your ears. “Into the Deep Misunderstanding” has these great guitar notes, familiar to many, yet taking on their own mannerisms as propulsive drum loops work behind and the vocals fade atop the track. Just sit back, listen to some escapist pop music that’s, honestly, not like too many things you’ll hear the rest of the week.

Fresh Pop from The Halamays

The end of the year already seems to be in full swing; less music is coming our way, but luckily we have The Halamays to save us from ourselves. The wife/husband duo from Ohio have just dropped EP 2, and there are some gems for your ears. Personally, I was originally drawn to the opener “I Don’t Care (Anymore),” which had a certain nostalgic vibe that I could relate to immediately. But, upon repeated listens, as we’re all likely going to do, I found myself digging “Hold Me Now;” I love the way the guitar breaks in through the song’s soft underbelly, even if only momentarily. Stream it all below!

Springy Pop from Swimming Tapes

There’s a youthful vibrance to the work that Swimming Tapes have completed. You can hear that exuberance immediately in this new single, jangling away from the moment you press play. A steady beat goes along, allowing the guitar to ring just a bit louder, all the whiles the vocals circle around your ears. They take you on the dreamier side of guitar pop, and you’re grateful for it. They’ll release their Soft Sea Blue EP on September 15th, so expect continued joy from their forthcoming release.

Start Your Day with The Salient Braves

For awhile, news of a new LP from the Salient Braves has been floating about. Now we’ve got a release date and a new song for you to start planning your purchase. This song is built on the back of a piano, incorporating the pleasant croon of the vocals to further the band’s brilliant use of melody. As the song moves on, touches of strings are added to the layers, building towards a more pronounced ending for the track. Their new records is titled Delusions of Grandeur, and it’s being released by Broken Down Records on September 22nd.

Brand New Music from Brad Peterson

Brad Peterson earned huge successes back in the day, sharing the stage with the likes of Radiohead and Jeff Buckley. But, a spinal injury put a premature stop on his musical career…until now. He pushed through the pain, rehab and dark days to complete The Ellipsis Album, which will hit on September 22nd. Our first listen is this track, opening with a joyous burst of promise, then pulling back for Peterson to allow his hallowed vocals to soar atop the pounding rhythm. The recording of the album alone should be a testament to Brad’s undying strength, as he recorded all the instruments himself, persevering beyond the pain and internal woe. Really, this song’s a marvel, but we should rejoice in the spirit of music for bringing Brad back to us.

Slick New Single From Dutch Party

Infectious is not a word I use frequently to describe music, but that’s exactly what comes to mind with this new track “Blade Runner” from L.A. based Dutch Party. Mastermind behind the project Ken Franklin immediately draws you in the second you hit play with the tracks catchy as hell take on electronic themed pop music. It reminds me a bit of Painted Palms and I’d say that’s a solid compliment.

Dutch Party will release new EP Combat Pop later this fall.

Check This Premiere of New Verandan

Finnish label Soliti has quite a remarkable stable, and this year they signed what I think is an artists capable of breaking across the globe: Verandan. With one incredible single under their belt, the band bring you this brand new single (released digitally on the 14th) to enjoy. It reminds me of the best of the pop world, combing chamber elements with delicate touches of atmospherics…all the while keeping a nice bit of energy in the track. Just imagine the playful bounce of Belle and Sebastian mingling with the more introspective world of the Clientele. The group even throws in some joyous “ooh oohs” near the end, so be sure to stay ’til then.

Another Gem From Minor Poet

Way back in March I was very excited to discover new Richmond based artist Andrew Carter and his project known as Minor Poet. Well as promised back then, I’d be sharing more new music as it came my way. Today we’ve got this great new track called “Judith Beheading Holofernes” for your eagerly awaiting ears. Once again we are treated to a beautiful, lo-fi pop number worthy of multiple spins.

A self-titled debut album will be coming from Minor Poet on August 25th via Egghunt Records.

Gorgeous Bully Give Us Another Jam

Manchester based Gorgeous Bully has seen a ton of coverage on ATH over the years, and for obvious reasons. Somehow the group has continually pumped out hit after hit, and full albums worth of material time after time. Today the band sent over their new single entitled “Time” which can be streamed below. The song is a typical GB jam, bright, full and masterful when it comes to instrumentation. They’ve done it again.

A B-side to this single is available to stream on bandcamp.

Stream All Three Sundtrodden EPs

On the off chance you read this blog on the regular, you’ve likely heard me mention Suntrodden a time…or twenty. Today could be the best day of your week, as you can now stream all 3 EPs together in one collective listen. It’s hard to pick a single track I love, as this collection is filled with a nice bit of diversity for any mood. I love the piano balladry from “Moonflower,” but then there’s real beauty in “Stay Gone,” taking on a more singer-songwriter vibe. I guess in the end, the most difficult thing is finding a track to ignore; each tune offers something special, something personal, which is perhaps why I’ve fallen in love with Suntrodden. The 3rd and final EP comes out this Friday, but stream them all together below!
