Cotillon Brings Something New to Burger Records

coatyIf I told you Cotillon was on Burger Records and you hadn’t heard the band, you’d likely think the group would offer something in the vein of garage rock.  But, with this album, the label is continuing its efforts to branch out into new territory, having this latest single offer little more than just a tinkling piano and some vocals.  It’s a short little ballad, yet it’s one that continues to push my excitement for the self-titled effort from the one-man project (January 26th).  Think gentle and pretty, yet far from mundane.

More Fun Hits from Quarterbacks

quarterbacksI just can’t stop listening to this record.  The songs are quick and to the point, yet they’re always infectious, getting stuck in your head.  But, like the song below, they’re all fairly short, so the listen isn’t daunting by any means; it’s refreshing in fact, blasting through with fun hooks in under 30 minutes.  I implore you to look beyond perceived simplicity in the lyrics and just indulge in what’s been a great surprise from Quarterbacks.  They’re self-titled album will be in stores on February 10th courtesy of Team Love Records.

Soft Side of Seagulls

Post-video picWe’ve gotta offer up two sides of our site, balancing out our love for rocking hits with our love for a great pop song.  Thus, we bring you the latest single from Seagulls, who’ve graced these pages previously.  There’s a consistent rising and falling throughout the entirety of the song, with the rise meeting up with a more pronounced sound, as opposed to the soft underbelly that holds the song in place.  Those of you searching for something of this sort will find a nice dosage of pop that keeps you coming back for more when you pick up their album, Great Pine, on February 3rd.

Happily Listening to Bruising

bruisedDon’t let the name, Bruising, fool you.  There’s nothing bruising or dangerous about this beautiful track from the UK outfit.  Sure, there’s some cascading guitar parts that might throw off a little bit of an edge, but for the most part, there’s nothing but sugar here.  Just listen to the main vocal, or the harmonies that join in carefully as the song unfolds; if you do so, I think we’ll be on the same page, right? This is our first listen to the band, as they’ve really just jumped into things, so I’ll give you a heads up on more to come in the future.

Enjoy a Little J Fernandez

jjI hadn’t really heard of J Fernandez or his previous EPs, but now that I’ve been subject to his latest single, I think I’ve got some work to do.  There’s something in his writing that reminds me of this weird blend of Dent May and Toro y Moi, yet it sounds wholly original.  You’ll hear these quiet little vocal touches working against the main vocal fold, and that’s what really sold me; it’s like listening to an insider secret on what’s going on.  We’ll hear more from J on October 14th when his latest EP, Memorize Now, gets a worldwide release.

Quirky Pop from Green Gerry

greenjellyThere’s been a rise in oddball pop bands coming out in the last year or so, or at least being brought further into the foray.  I’ve grown quite obsessed, as I deem most of these acts as rather important, especially after listening to this new tune from Green Gerry.  There’s a quality of California nostalgia here, which makes sense as that’s the current residence of the group, but I love the way the guitar seems to work against the grain of the track, though clearly it also works in unison; it gives the song a swagger that definitely endears itself to me. Who knows what’s coming next for the act, but for now, I’m enjoying what’s coming my way.

Brand New Tune from The Stevens

steveIn case you were one of those unfortunate souls who missed out on the glory that was The History of Hygiene, then first listen to this delightful new song from The Stevens.  We got glimpses of this sort of pop on their debut, but this track shows such growth and perfection that it’s hard to even really see them as the same group. When the world looks back in 20 years on the history of Australian pop music, they’ll start to look at Chapter Music as the purveyors of all great things; they’re the label releasing this delectable single. Perfect way to wrap up your Friday afternoon.  Then you can also go pick up their LP; you deserve it.

We Like White Arrows

artworks-000088443537-vu528k-t500x500If you frequent our website on the regular, you are well aware that we are big fans of the new material we are hearing from White Arrows.  The style of the band has seemingly grown up in leaps in bounds when compared to their last effort as I’m hearing some darker tendencies in their once glowing pop sound.  Here’s another new song called “Nobody Cares” that’s sure to get you just as excited for this release as we are.

Download Latest Single from S

jenngYou know what I respect about Hardly Art? They’re still down to give out a free download now and then.  They trust in their product; they know you’ll love what you hear, so you’ll pick it up from them.  So, with that in mind, they tossed up the newest tune from S, the project of Jenn Ghetto.  It’s much like her earlier singles, showing sonic similarities towards Tegan and Sara; no one is too cool to enjoy a great pop song…well, some of you are, but you’re probably not reading this. She’ll be releasing her album, Cool Choices, on September 23rd through the label; don’t be afraid to enjoy your day listening to this tune.

New Psych Rock From The Britanys

2_1Brooklyn based The Britanys is a band that I honestly knew very little about before writing this post.  What I do know is a quality rock song when I hear it.  This one called “Blow” has a bit of quirkiness to it with the hi pitched vocals and washed out sound creating some special moments.  All in a all, an interesting song worth your time.

These guys have a new EP coming out on September 9th.
