Psych Rocker From Heaters

heaters_credit_emily_jonkerIf you’re in the mood for some psych rock on your Monday, Michigan based Heaters should satisfy your desires.  Yes this new song “Propane” is a washed out, psychedelic rock number that can stand up to just about any song currently in the genre.  Hit play and see what I mean.

Heaters will drop Holy Water Pool on September 25th via Beyond Beyond is Beyond Records.

Heavy Handed Psych Rock from Ancient Sky

ancientsAdmittedly, I took some time off from the psych rock last week; too much of a good thing can be a bad thing…or so my mom said.  But, I’m returning this week with a real heavy burner of a tune from Ancient Sky, who we’ve featured on these pages before.  For the first two minutes, the song does read as your fairly run-of-the-mill blend of psych, but soon enough, you’ll hear the band pound on the drums, rip through the distorted guitar riffs and shout at the top of their lungs.  It provides listeners with a nice little twist, leaving you with more of a sludgy rocker than a psych tune.  The band will release their new album, Mosaic, on June 9th via Wharf Cat Records.

Psychedelic Soul from France Camp

purgeWe’ve got Levitation (formerly Austin Psych Fest) on our brains around the ATH offices, and I’m already suggesting to the festival that they sign up France Camp for next year’s fest.  This first single off their new album, Purge, has exactly what you’ve wanted you’re psych rock tune to sound like, especially if you like your song to have some precision.  Sure, you can hear that guitar sound, but it doesn’t wander too far, staying perfectly in place with the tune to bring this tight cohesion that benefits your listening experience. This new LP will be released in limited numbers via Forged Artifacts on May 19th, so be sure you’re one of those to get your hands on it.

Sun Voyager Full Steam Ahead

sunnyJust because they released an EP a few weeks ago doesn’t mean the boys in Sun Voyager can’t come right back with another single for your ears. The three-piece have again caught my ear with another slice of solid psych-influenced garage rock, the likes of Ty Segall.  This song slowly trudges along, capturing your ear whilst operating at a slow pace.  You’ll find yourself drifting in and out with this song, which is the perfect way to spend the midweek, if you’re asking me.  No words yet on a new album or EP, but I reckon at this pace, it’s just around the corner.

Fuzzy Rocker from Sun Voyager

voyagesJust a few weeks ago I dropped a tune from Sun Voyager in regards to their forthcoming split with Greasy Hearts, but they’ve just unleashed another new tune for a label comp that’s coming your way soon.  This track is the perfect blow-your-hair-back psych rock that makes for great liver performances; it’s got this sludgy deep riff that rattles your soul, while the vocals wobble in atmospheric fashion atop it all.  This is for fans that like the heavier side of psych rock…and really, just those that want to rock on a Monday.

How You Feeling about King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard?

kingYou know, I’m not real sure how I feel about it all either. I mean, first, there’s the name: King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard…some things can go too far.  But, I put that aside and really sat down with their most recent tune, and this one I feel like I can get behind.  There’s all sorts of musical movement in and out for the Aussie act; they settle into a nice bit of a groove then allow themselves to really immerse you inside that groove.  You can’t escape until the song ends, so perhaps that’s the power of the Lizard Wizard.  Look for the band’s LP, I’m In Your Mind Fuzz, via Castle Face Records on November 11th.

New Psych Rock From The Britanys

2_1Brooklyn based The Britanys is a band that I honestly knew very little about before writing this post.  What I do know is a quality rock song when I hear it.  This one called “Blow” has a bit of quirkiness to it with the hi pitched vocals and washed out sound creating some special moments.  All in a all, an interesting song worth your time.

These guys have a new EP coming out on September 9th.

New Music From Smoker

n3sv_SPS1Last year we shared a new tune with you by a band called Smoker (then known as Stephen Paul Smoker) and today we’ve got some new music from the guys.  This track “Strange Ways” appears on an album of same name that was released earlier this summer.  It has the same sort of bluesy/psych-rock type soulful feel to it that we got with the last song they shared with us.  It’s definitely something worth your time.

Psych Rock n Roll From The Dig

dig-photo-1The Dig is a band that have always been on my radar as one who can bring the downtrodden rock n roll with the best of em.  This new song “Angeline” is no different from what you might expect from the band with its slow moving psych rock sound that builds towards a nice outro complete with thumping bass riffs.  A new EP entitled Tired Hearts is due out on June 4th and can be pre-ordered now via the Tired Hearts Bandcamp page.
