Going to see Mad Max tonight, Braids tomorrow and plenty of friends over the following two days. Hopefully, we won’t float away. In preparation for rain on Sunday, we are planning on making replicas of Shake Shack burgers indoors. Take that El Nina.
We last visited Gypsy & The Cat for one of the catchiest songs of 2012, my personal favorite jam that year, called “Bloom”. This track and a smoother semi-psych pop thins going on, and while different from my jam of 2012, it is still a damn good song and deserves attention for your earholes. Have fun, be safe.
We first featured The New Division a few years back with a track called “Opium”. While they have sent out some work recently, this one stuck with me. The new record Gemini is being released June 2nd and “Copycat” has been my favorite thing previewed so far. It is the synthy goodness I fall sucker to with bass-lines that evolve from disco to wave and darker progressions, eliciting M83 and all bands that influenced them.
So I share, because I care.
What’s up, nerds?
Late last week, Austin Psych Fest announced the schedule for this year’s Levitation Festival. I love it. Even if you have a conflict, you will have an opportunity to meander in the fringes and bolster you festival band count. If you don’t want to meander, you’ll have nice breaks between bands to allow for extra-curricular activities like, ya know, eating and drinking and not dehydrating and shrivelling. It is not a sprint, it is a marathon.
Can’t wait to be miserably tired when The FLaming Lips take the stage on Sunday at 11:45pm…

Love me some Ghostly International. We’ve stepped up hip hop coverage with Tactic joining the team. I traditionally find the zeros and ones when Nate doesn’t beat me to it (or I hate looking at music related stuff after SxSW photo processing benders). This track will be the closer to Ghostly Swim 2, available to sample and pre-order now; it is a fourteen track compilation featuring the likes of Shigeto, Heathered Pearls and CFCF. Galcher Lustwerk’s “In The Place” takes a beautiful sonic landscape and layers party rhymes delivered in a monotone smoothness that lets you just focus on the cadence with words disappearing or smile as the juxtapostion of being about it is delivered over the sonic landscape.
In it to win it. Check out a few other tracks on Ghostly Swim 2 here.
I didn’t miss it, but I didn’t post it. I am sorry. I was sidetracked and found a buried tab.
Chromatics will release their latest album called Dear Tommy in March on Italians Do It Better (of course) and to celebrate, they are sharing a track every week (allegedly) and we start the sharing with “JUST LIKE YOU”. It is a slowly evolving tune that never loses its way. I tend to like anything Chromatics and this is no exception. Download via the soundcloud thingy down there.
Just in case you missed the news, or didn’t have time to live stream, you can now head to SXSWFM’s soundcloud page, and just stream the whole hour. It’s got lots of hits, though remember, these all had to be Official SXSW acts…just in case you thought I left out your best friend’s brother’s band. No need to say much more, just go stream it, and enjoy some Austin tunes. Feel free to spread it to your friends that are coming in to town and might not know what’s what or which way is that way.
Embed for ease of use, but do try to check out other programming at SxSWFM…
You can get your SxSW Music wristbands tomorrow. Same rules as usual – Austin area billing zip code for your plastic, you can buy two wristbands but have to provide the names, you’ll need photo IDs to pick up your wristband which will get snapped on at the start of the conference.
For your $169, you will get access to any venue not at capacity aside from the few showcases that are badge only. I used a wristband last year to get away from FOMO and it was bliss. Go check out someone you have never seen instead of getting barraged by Dorito Taco Loco.
On sale January 22nd at 10am (ATX time), Click here.
The weather has lifted. That bright thing is the sun. Prepare for the cedar onslaught.
Here is a lovely little PYAITK jam from a band called Sego. I was checking out another little news bit about a Kitsune Maison release that is pending when a little trip to their Soundcloud to see what’s doing yielded a play of this song below. It is called “Wicket Youth”. Dig it.
I promised a set of songs from the IT Department for your evening’s happenings. It has dance jams and down-tempo smoothness. It has stuff that was in our best of the year list and stuff that you may be hearing for the first time. Whether you use this for good or evil is up to you. Almost two hours, so plan accordingly…
While trolling for song links, I saw that Roger Sellers has a super fresh version of “Auld Lang Syne” up featuring The Deer. How cool its that? Naturally, it is batting clean up as the final spot on this list with the New Year’s theme. Enjoy your New Year’s with old friends, new friends *wink* and maybe even family. I prefer fambly.
May 2015 be better than 2014. Be you…
Hope you all had a safe and Happy Thanksgiving with family and friends. We trust you told them all about our super cool website, right?
For your weekend of Black Friday injury recovery, family oddities, college football gambling stress and Premier League drama, take a listen to this fantastic EP from Beacon. Ghostly posted L1 over on their Soundcloud a few days ago and it is a gem. Due 12/2, Preorder the plastic with download over at the Ghostly store.
