Show Preview: Generationals @ Mohawk (11.20)

Date Tuesday, November 20th
Location Mohawk
Doors 9:00 PM
Tickets $8 from Mohawk

Okay, so I know a lot of you are trying to get out of town, but you’ve got a great reason to stay behind, just for a few hours.  Two of our favorite acts are coming to play the inside of Mohawk on Tuesday night: Generationals and Races.  Races played a show we sponsored this past summer, and they were incredible, pulling off a set that made us beg for them to come back.  As for Generationals, I can’t say enough about the group.  Their two records Con Law and Actor-Caster are great, and they just release the new Lucky Numbers EP, which is going to guarantee a great gig.  If you can stick around, then plan to show up!

New Music From Races

Here’s a new jam from one our favorite bands, Races, who also happen to be coming into town for SXSW.  The new tune is called “Lies” and appears on the band’s upcoming new album entitled Year of the Witch.  You can get your hands on that one right after SXSW on March 27th via Frenchkiss Records.  This one makes me look forward to seeing the band live when they’re in town in a couple weeks.  Dig.

New Track from RACES

Frenchkiss Records has a pretty solid track record with me, especially since the label’s run by some of the bros from Les Savy Fav.  They just released a new EP yesterday from LA band RACES.  The EP is titled Big Broom EP, and I’ve really been enjoying this track here.  I don’t know why, but for some reason the vocal performance sort of gives me this Walkmen feel, but that’s also part of the overall song structure true.  Boiled down, it’s pretty much straight forward indie rock, which in and of itself is refreshing, since no one seems to be kicking it old school anymore. Give it a listen and enjoy your afternoon folks.

New Slow Burner from RACES

The LA based group, RACES (formerly Black Jesus) have just signed on with Frenchkiss Records, who will be releasing the band’s debut LP this fall.  In preparation for the ride to their debut, the band have just released a single that should probably win you over pretty quickly.  There’s somewhat of a distance at the opening of the track, but as the vocals enter with the thick bass line, you find yourself being sucked into the dense sound of the “Big Broom.”  Accompaniment of female vocals add a nice softness to the track, leaving you with sort of a sleepy feeling.  Should be an interesting collection of tunes.
